3D CAD/Fusion 360 Expert for Truck Storage
Worldwide
Mule Gear is looking for an experienced 3D CAD designer / mechanical design specialist to help scale our custom aluminum truck storage system product line. We already have a strong lead designer and established design direction. We now need another capable CAD expert to help with recurring builds, customer-specific variations, design updates, manufacturing drawings, and production-ready files. The right person will be detail-oriented, reliable, comfortable working inside an existing design system, and able to make smart modeling decisions without constant direction. Fusion 360 is strongly preferred. Experience or curiosity around AI-assisted design, automation, parametric workflows, scan-to-CAD, generative design, or faster modeling systems is a major plus. About the Work Our storage units are designed around specific truck cab models, customer needs, and trade workflows. Systems may include pullout drawers, angled front cabinets, doors, trap doors, mounting points, top shelves, battery charger stations, Milwaukee Packout mounting areas, and other functional storage features. Our lead designer focuses on new truck models, product development, and creative structural design. Your role would focus mainly on applying already-developed design principles to repeat orders, customer variations, upgrades, and manufacturing-ready documentation. This is not basic drafting. We need someone who understands how parts are fabricated, bent, cut, welded, assembled, and installed. Key Responsibilities Modify and create accurate 3D models, preferably in Fusion 360. Prepare sheet metal parts with correct thicknesses, bends, reliefs, tolerances, and assembly considerations. Create DXF/DWG cut files, flat patterns, bend lines, hole placements, weld references, and clear shop-ready drawings. Adapt existing designs for repeat customers, new options, or small configuration changes. Catch issues before fabrication, including fitment problems, missing holes, bad bends, tolerance conflicts, or unclear drawings. Help improve our repeatable design-to-fabrication workflow. Required Skills Strong 3D CAD experience, preferably Fusion 360. Sheet metal fabrication design experience. Ability to create production-ready DXF/DWG files and manufacturing drawings. Understanding of bend allowances, bend reliefs, tolerances, hole placement, fasteners, and welding/assembly considerations. Strong attention to detail and practical mechanical thinking. Clear communication and ability to ask good questions. Helpful Experience Experience with truck storage systems, service bodies, overlanding equipment, mobile trades, welding fabrication, CNC/laser cutting, aluminum sheet metal, vehicle interiors, 3D scans, or tight-space mechanical packaging would be very valuable. What We Will Provide We can provide existing Fusion 360 models, design references, customer requirements, photos, 3D scans when available, notes from previous builds, dimensions, material information, and direction from our lead designer. What Success Looks Like Success means you can take a customer variation or existing truck model and move it toward production without confusion, rework, or fabrication delays. Your files should be clean, organized, accurate, and easy for the team and shop to understand. Longer term, success may include helping us create reusable components, drawing standards, templates, parametric workflows, or AI-assisted systems that keep Mule Gear ahead of competitors. Project Type We are open to starting with a paid test project. If it goes well, this could become ongoing part-time work. How to Apply Please include examples of relevant sheet metal, fabrication, or mechanical design work. Generic applications will be ignored. We are looking for someone who understands fabrication, not just someone who can make a model look good on screen. Please answer these questions: What CAD software do you use most often, and how strong are you in Fusion 360? Have you created sheet metal parts for laser cutting, bending, welding, or fabrication? Can you prepare DXF/DWG files, flat patterns, bend lines, and manufacturing drawings? Have you worked on truck, vehicle, overlanding, storage, service body, or tight-space fabrication projects? Are you comfortable modifying existing designs and creating repeat customer variations within an established design system? Have you used or explored AI-assisted tools, automation, parametric templates, scan-to-CAD workflows, or other methods to speed up 3D modeling? If you are a strong CAD designer with real sheet metal fabrication experience and you are excited about the future of AI-assisted design workflows, we would like to hear from you.
