We are a growing US based accounting firm diversifying into other areas for some hnw clients. About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) specializing in the Oil & Gas sector to assist with our tax advisory and compliance efforts. The ideal candidate will have extensive, hands-on experience handling complex upstream oil and gas investments. You will be responsible for providing strategic tax advice and preparing federal and state tax returns for entities and individuals with Limited Partnership (LP) interests, Working Interests (WI), and Net Revenue Interests (NRI). Key Responsibilities Tax Preparation & Compliance: Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for oil and gas partnerships, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals. Specialized Accounting: Accurately track, analyze, and report on various oil and gas revenue streams, including: Working Interests (WI): Managing Intangible Drilling Costs (IDCs), lease operating expenses (LOEs), and self-employment tax implications. Net Revenue Interests (NRI) & Royalties: Managing depletion allowances (statutory vs. cost depletion) and passive activity loss limitations. LP Interests: Handling complex Schedule K-1s, basis limitations, and at-risk rules. Tax Advisory & Planning: Provide proactive tax planning strategies regarding depletion, IDC elections, joint operating agreements (JOAs), and structural optimization for oil and gas assets. Qualifications & Experience Credentials: Active CPA license is required. Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 5–7+ years of public accounting or specialized industry experience, with a heavy emphasis on upstream oil and gas taxation. Deep Technical Knowledge: Must possess a strong grasp of: IRC Section 613A (Depletion) and Section 263(c) (IDCs). Publicly Traded Partnerships (PTPs) and private oil & gas LP structures. State-specific severance taxes and multi-state filing requirements (e.g., Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Colorado).
