3D Cap Configurator, Interactive Web App (Three.js / WebGL)
Worldwide
Note: Anyone using a personalised video application will be guaranteed an interview for this job. Any generic applications will be deleted. My name is Jonathan, please include is in your application. We are a UK based bespoke headwear manufacturer. We produce fully custom caps from scratch, so a customer can specify almost any style, material, closure, logo technique and finish. We want a web based 3D configurator that lets a customer build a custom cap and see it update live in 3D as they make each choice. When they are done, the tool generates a downloadable PDF summary and sends us their full configuration as structured data so it can feed straight into our sales and quoting process. This is a real product for a live business, not a prototype. We want clean, well documented, maintainable code. What the configurator needs to do: 1. Render a cap in 3D in the browser, with rotate, zoom and inspect. 2. Guide the customer through a step by step configuration flow. 3. Update the 3D model in real time on every selection (model, material, colour, closure, logo, add ons). 4. Let the customer upload their own logo (SVG and PNG) and place it on the cap, with a preview that reflects the chosen application technique and placement. 5. Let the customer add a colourway and any add ons. 6. Generate a downloadable PDF summary of the finished design, with the key visuals and a full spec list. 7. Output the full configuration as structured data (JSON) that we can pass into our own quoting system. This is important to us, the tool is only useful if the output plugs into our pipeline cleanly. 8. Optional, depending on your quote: a simple admin area where we can manage the available options and pricing without touching code. Configuration options The tool should support these categories and options. We may add or remove options later, so the option lists should be easy for us to edit. Cap model: 5 panel, 6 panel, 7 panel, rope hat, trucker, ventilated, camp cap, flat peak, bucket hat, boonie, beanie, pom pom Closure: snapback, fabric slide, strapback, velcro, nylon strap, D clip, flexfit Material: cotton, polyester, waterproof polyester, suede, velvet, denim, corduroy, leather Logo application: flat embroidery, 3D embroidery, engraved leather, printed leather, screen print, PVC print, rubber patch, woven patch, chenille patch, applique Logo placement: front, left, right, back Add ons: printed seam tape, rear woven label, internal woven label, interior lining What we will provide 1. Our brand assets and colour references. 2. Reference photos of our existing caps for each style. 3. Sample logo files for testing. 4. This spec and our internal quoting format so you can match the data output. 5. 3D models, or reference for them (see the questions below, we want to understand whether you build models or need them supplied). What you will deliver 1. A working, responsive 3D configurator, tested on desktop and mobile browsers. 2. Full source code in a repository we own. 3. Short documentation covering how to run it, edit the option lists, and update pricing. 4. Handover support to get it live on our hosting. Tech and approach We are open to your recommendation, but we expect a modern, maintainable web stack. Likely Three.js or Babylon.js for the 3D, GLTF or GLB models, and a clean front end framework of your choice. Tell us what you would use and why. Skills we are looking for 1. Real world experience building 3D product configurators or similar interactive WebGL apps. 2. Strong Three.js or Babylon.js. 3. Confident with texture, decal and UV mapping (needed to place a customer logo correctly on a curved surface in different finishes). 4. Solid front end development. 5. PDF generation from web app data. 6. Clear communicator who can work to a written spec. Bonus: experience with apparel or headwear configurators, and 3D modelling ability. Timeline A comparable proposal we received estimated 12 weeks. We would like your realistic estimate based on the scope above. Please break it into milestones. Budget Please bid based on the full scope, and be clear about what is and is not included in your number. If model creation, the admin area, or pipeline integration would be extra, say so up front so we can compare bids fairly. Please answer these in your application 1. Share one or two similar 3D configurators you have built, with live links. 2. Which 3D library would you use for this, and why? 3. How would you handle placing a customer uploaded logo onto the 3D cap so it looks right across the different application techniques? 4. Do you create the 3D cap models yourself, or would you need us to provide them? 5. What is your realistic timeline and total cost, broken into milestones? 6. How would you deliver the structured configuration output so it can feed into our existing quoting system? We will shortlist based on relevant work and clear, specific answers. Generic applications will not be reviewed.
