Children’s Book Designer

I’m looking for an experienced Children’s Book Designer to design and format a faith-based children’s picture book for print publication. The illustrations for the book are complete. I’m looking for someone who can take the final illustrations and manuscript and bring them together into a polished, professionally designed book that is ready for print. This role is focused specifically on book design, layout, typography, and print preparation, not illustration. Responsibilities Design the complete interior layout using the provided illustrations and manuscript Thoughtfully place and format text across illustrated spreads Select and establish typography that complements the artwork and overall feel of the collection Ensure visual consistency, readability, spacing, and flow throughout the book Format the book according to final trim size, bleed, margins, and printer specifications Prepare cover files for print using provided artwork and final book specifications Prepare final print-ready files that meet professional prepress requirements Make necessary adjustments following proof review Provide final packaged/source files upon completion Who I’m Looking For You may be a great fit if you: Have direct experience designing and formatting children’s picture books for print Have a strong portfolio of completed book layouts, ideally for traditionally or independently published children’s books Understand the unique relationship between copy and illustration in picture-book design Have strong typography and editorial design skills Understand professional print production, including bleed, trim, safe areas, color considerations, image resolution, and file preparation Are highly detail-oriented and comfortable working within an established visual direction Have experience preparing files for book printers and/or publishing and distribution platforms About the Project This book is part of a Christian, faith-based children’s book collection. The illustrations and broader creative direction have already been established, so I’m looking for a designer who can work within that vision while bringing professional expertise to the final book design.
