Summary

Project Overview: I am seeking a talented, communicative US-based children's book illustrator to bring the next installment of my published children's book series, Scout Bowman, to life. About the Series: "Scout Bowman is a curious young Sasquatch with a big heart and tired kidneys. As Scout and his family journey through weekly treatments, hospital days, and complex questions, he learns what courage looks like in small, everyday moments. When an unexpected gift offers new hope, Scout discovers that bravery isn't about being fearless; it's about being loved, supported, and never walking alone. A tender story for children and families facing medical challenges, Scout Bowman and the Gift of a Kidney offers comfort, understanding, and hope." About This Specific Book (Scout Bowman & The Brothers of 1954): In this upcoming installment, Scout grows as a character—navigating classroom test anxiety, imaginative dreamscapes, a rainy library basement, and a historical journey back to Boston in 1954, where the first successful kidney transplant took place between twin brothers. This project requires an artist who can balance heartfelt, warm character expressions with atmospheric environments (cozy classrooms, 1950s historical hospital settings, and medical/scientific details). Scope of Deliverables: 1 Full Wrap-Around Cover (Front, Back, Spine) 16 Full-Color Double-Page Spreads (Main story & background pages) Spot Artwork / Layout elements for Title Page, Dedication/Copyright, Foreword, and Back-Matter Educational Note Visual Style & Technical Requirements: Established Aesthetics: Artwork should complement the soft, painterly, warm backlit look of Book 1 (Scout Bowman & The Gift of a Kidney). Craftsmanship: 100% human-created artwork only. No AI-generated imagery or AI-assisted shortcuts. Layered working files (PSD or Procreate) are required at milestone delivery. Contract Terms: Strict Work-for-Hire / Full Copyright Assignment. All rights and visual IP transfer to the publisher upon payment. Communication & Workflow: I am an author-publisher with a clear, specific visual vision for my story. I value direct, honest, and collaborative communication throughout storyboarding, character sketches, line drawings, and final color stages. I respect artistic integrity, but I need an artist who views the author as an active creative partner. Clear milestones, agreed-upon revision rounds, and adherence to realistic deadlines are essential. Future Opportunities: This contract is specifically for Scout Bowman & The Brothers of 1954. However, if the working relationship, communication, and project execution go smoothly, I am actively seeking a long-term artistic partner to re-hire for the remaining books in the series. How to Apply: Please confirm you are based in the United States. Share a link to your portfolio/website showing past picture book work (specifically scenes showcasing emotional characters, rich lighting, or detailed environments). Include your target per-spread or total project rate range under a Work-for-Hire structure. Briefly describe your process for working with an author who provides detailed storyboards/direction.
