Children's Book Writer-Editor - Motivational stories (Girls aged 7–8)
Worldwide
We are developing a choose-your-own-path confidence book for 7–8 year old American girls featuring four recurring girl characters across eight stories. Each story has two independent paths, a choice page, and a reflection page per path. *All writing must be in American English - vocabulary, spelling and cultural references. Experience writing for an American child audience preferred. * The story architecture, characters and plot structures are fully designed. We need a writer-editor who can take an existing story skeleton and make it irresistible to a 7-year-old - without changing the plot, character arc, lesson or choice structure. This is an editing and expansion job, not blank-page creative writing. The full project - for each of eight stories: -Expand the narrative from ~1,100 words to a final 1,500–1,600 words version -Write or improve the choice page text (two options presented to the reader) -Write or improve both reflection pages — Big Idea (one sentence), two reader questions, and a weekly dare Full writer brief, character profiles and one sample story provided to all trial candidates. The trial: -All candidates complete a paid trial before the full project. You receive one story skeleton and the full brief. Your task: -Expand and improve the story to 1,500–1,600 words Write or improve the choice page and both reflection pages Submit a one-page rationale: your five biggest improvements and why -Trial fee: $40 · Turnaround: 5–7 days · Payment on submission What we are looking for: -Experience writing or editing fiction for children aged 6–10 -Strong instinct for age-appropriate voice and dialogue -Ability to add tension and humor without moralizing or explaining the lesson -Ability to write short, punchy reflection content that sounds like a fun challenge -not a worksheet What we are NOT looking for: -Writers who add therapy language or explain emotions -Writers who make 7-year-olds sound like adults -Writers who make the lesson explicit in the story or reflection pages To apply: Share a brief note on your children's fiction experience and one writing sample. To confirm you have read this listing, begin your application with CAPTAIN PICKLES. Full project fee discussed with selected candidates after the trial.
