We are a 4th generation, family owned masonry and concrete company based in Los Angeles, carrying forward over 100 years of craftsmanship since 1916. Rooted in traditional Italian masonry and built on a reputation for quality, precision, and integrity, we specialize in commercial and residential masonry and concrete construction including structural concrete, retaining walls, CMU, brick, stone, historic restoration, and custom installations. We are known for doing things right the first time and solving complex scopes that require experience, judgment, and exceptional attention to detail. As we continue expanding our commercial division, we are looking for an exceptional Commercial Virtual Estimator to help us bid smarter, improve accuracy, and win the right projects. About the Role We are seeking an experienced and highly detail oriented Commercial Virtual Estimator to join our team remotely. This is not traditional commercial estimating. Many of our projects are designed by smaller engineering and architectural firms where details may be incomplete, omitted, or not fully coordinated. Success in this role requires more than measuring quantities. You must be able to analyze plans critically, identify missing information, cross reference multiple sources, and make informed recommendations. You will review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, project notes, field conditions, and project walkthrough videos to develop complete and accurate proposals. Our estimators are expected to think like builders and problem solvers, not just estimators. This position focuses specifically on masonry and concrete scopes of work. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Bid Preparation • Review residential and commercial construction drawings in detail and identify complete scope requirements. • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for: • CMU and block • Brick masonry • Stonework • Structural and architectural concrete • Retaining walls • Related site and masonry scopes • Develop organized, professional proposals and bid packages. • Build labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor assumptions into estimates. Scope Analysis & Technical Review • Review and interpret geotechnical and soil reports and identify all cost and constructability impacts. • Analyze construction notes, engineering details, retaining wall requirements, and supporting documents. • Cross reference project plans with supporting reports and site walkthrough videos to identify discrepancies, omissions, or conditions not captured in the drawings. • Interpret incomplete scopes and fill in reasonable assumptions while clearly documenting exclusions and clarifications. • Identify scope gaps, missing information, conflicts, bid risks, and opportunities before submission. • Generate RFIs and communicate clarifications proactively. Collaboration • Participate in estimate review meetings with leadership via Google Meet. • Present assumptions, recommendations, and bid strategy clearly. • Support continuous improvement of estimating systems, pricing databases, and proposal standards. What We're Looking For Required Experience • Proven estimating experience in masonry and concrete construction. • Strong understanding of commercial and residential construction methods. • Ability to confidently read plans, specifications, details, and structural documents. • Experience reviewing geotechnical reports and translating findings into pricing decisions. • Ability to work independently with limited direction and navigate undefined scopes. • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify issues others may miss. Ideal Background We are open to candidates from multiple backgrounds, including: • Commercial masonry or concrete estimators • Structural engineering backgrounds • Project engineers • Construction project managers • Senior field professionals with strong estimating experience The ideal candidate enjoys solving incomplete scopes, connecting details across multiple documents, and creating estimates that hold up in the field. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, STACK, On Screen Takeoff, or similar estimating platforms. • Experience preparing proposals for commercial and negotiated work. • Understanding of means and methods for masonry and concrete installation. • Strong written communication and professional presentation skills. Success in This Role Within your first 90 days, you should be able to: • Independently review plans and identify scope requirements. • Produce complete estimates with minimal revisions. • Catch scope gaps and technical risks before bids are submitted. • Improve estimate consistency, turnaround time, and proposal quality. Schedule & Availability • Fully remote position. • Flexible working hours with accountability to deadlines. • Availability outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends when necessary to support bid deadlines. • Ability to attend Google Meet calls as needed.
