Better Together Agency is a Black woman-founded, AI-forward communications agency serving mission-driven organizations. We are hiring a reliable, detail-oriented freelance Project Manager to support a long-term client engagement with a statewide nonprofit advocacy organization in the education sector You will work directly with the Agency team to keep a multi-workstream PR and communications engagement running on time, on scope and on budget. You will be embedded in our workflow and will have regular one-on-one touchpoints with Agency leadership. About the Role This role is ideal for a dependable project manager who thrives in fast-moving, multi-stakeholder communications environments. You will help coordinate work across six active workstreams and ensure the team stays aligned on priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. What You Will Be Doing Managing project timelines, task assignments and deliverable tracking, including narrative development, media relations, legislative session preparation, a testimonial program, social media, and crisis communications Maintaining and updating the Agency's Notion workspace: project boards, content calendars, meeting notes, and status trackers Coordinating internal team communications via Slack, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks Tracking progress against success metrics (earned media placements, newsletter growth, testimonial library milestones, thought leadership placements) Supporting scheduling and prep for 90-day strategy sessions, stakeholder check-ins, and legislative calendar milestones Using AI tools to streamline reporting, documentation, and status summaries Flagging risks, blockers, and timeline shifts proactively Ideal Candidate 3+ years of project management experience, preferably in PR, communications, or a marketing agency environment Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams with competing deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills; you will interface with Agency leadership regularly Proficient in Notion (task management, databases, content calendars) and Slack Comfortable using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to support documentation and workflow Experience supporting nonprofit or advocacy clients is a strong plus Familiarity with public relations or communications deliverables (media pitches, press releases, newsletters, social content calendars) Reliable, self-directed, and organized; this role requires minimal hand-holding
