Summary

$12–$15/hr — Complex U.S. Bankruptcy Litigation Strategy Attorney | Remote | Internationally Located Attorney Summary Rose Law Firm is seeking an exceptional internationally located, licensed attorney to support complex U.S. bankruptcy litigation strategy, adversary proceedings, creditor/debtor disputes, asset recovery, discovery strategy, and insolvency-related commercial litigation. This is not a routine paralegal, document review, or virtual assistant role. We are looking for a sophisticated attorney-level thinker who can help senior U.S. attorneys analyze pleadings, evaluate claims and defenses, organize complex litigation records, identify leverage points, develop litigation strategy, and prepare high-quality written work product for attorney review. The ideal candidate will have meaningful experience supporting U.S. bankruptcy litigation, Chapter 7 or Chapter 11 adversary proceedings, contested matters, fraudulent transfer claims, preference claims, fiduciary-duty disputes, professional-liability issues, alter ego / veil-piercing theories, discovery disputes, or comparable complex commercial litigation. This role can begin part-time but may develop into a long-term, full-time position for exceptional talent who consistently demonstrates strong legal judgment, excellent written work product, reliability, ownership, and alignment with the firm’s five core values: Integrity, Excellence, Ownership, Coachability, and Teamwork. ________________________________________ Position Details Position Title: Complex U.S. Bankruptcy Litigation Strategy Attorney Compensation: $12–$15/hour, depending on experience, demonstrated skill level, and fit Location: Fully remote Expected Hours: Flexible, likely 10–30 hours/week to start, with potential to expand Potential Growth: This can become a long-term or full-time role for exceptional talent Engagement Type: Independent contractor Time Tracking: All work must be tracked using Upwork’s automatic time tracker Hourly Cap: Contractor must not exceed weekly hourly caps set on Upwork without prior approval ________________________________________ Mandatory Work Hours and Availability Because Rose Law Firm operates as a remote-first but highly coordinated legal team, availability during defined sync hours is important. Mandatory Sync Hours: You must generally be available during 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, for workflow coordination, attorney check-ins, urgent questions, and team collaboration. Workflow Meetings: You must be available for mandatory workflow meetings, including quickstart meetings scheduled by the firm. Additional Availability: Work outside mandatory sync hours is permitted and often expected depending on your time zone, workload, and assignments. However, responsiveness during the U.S. workday is important for collaboration, attorney review, and litigation deadlines. Notice Requirement: You must notify the firm in advance if you are unable to attend scheduled meetings or will be unavailable during expected sync hours. ________________________________________ Technology and Hardware Requirements You must have: • Reliable high-speed internet; • A computer capable of handling cloud-based legal work, document review, AI tools, Microsoft Office, and video conferencing; • Professional-grade microphone and camera for virtual meetings; • Quiet, distraction-free workspace; • Ability to attend meetings on camera; • Ability to participate in meetings from a computer, not only from a mobile phone; • Proficiency or willingness to learn Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, cloud-based document systems, and firm workflow tools; • Willingness to use AI-supported legal tools and firm-approved technology platforms. Camera-on participation is expected for meetings unless otherwise approved. ________________________________________ Mandatory Time Tracking and Work Transparency All work must be tracked using Upwork’s automatic time tracker. This is required for transparency, accountability, workflow management, and client/matter tracking. Manual time may not be accepted unless specifically approved in advance. You must: • Accurately track all work time; • Use meaningful work memos where appropriate; • Stay within approved weekly hour limits; • Request approval before exceeding any weekly cap; • Avoid billing for idle, duplicative, administrative, or unauthorized time. ________________________________________ Engagement Documentation Before beginning substantive work, the candidate may be required to review and approve firm engagement documentation, including: • Confidentiality Agreement; • Nonbinding Term Sheet; • Contractor Services Agreement; • Firm policies and workflow expectations; • Technology, confidentiality, and information-security requirements. Because this role involves sensitive litigation materials, confidentiality, discretion, and compliance with firm systems are mandatory. ________________________________________ About Rose Law Firm Rose Law Firm is a U.S.-based business law firm serving middle-market business owners, companies, fiduciaries, and stakeholders in sophisticated commercial, corporate, litigation, insolvency, and transaction-related matters. Our work frequently involves complex ownership disputes, distressed business situations, bankruptcy-related litigation, adversary proceedings, fiduciary-duty claims, asset recovery issues, professional-liability concerns, and strategic litigation planning. We are a remote-first, systems-oriented law firm that values high-quality legal analysis, practical judgment, intellectual honesty, disciplined execution, and continuous improvement. We use modern legal technology, AI tools, structured workflows, and collaborative systems to improve the quality and efficiency of legal work. ________________________________________ Our Five Core Values Exceptional candidates for this role must personally embody the firm’s five core values: Integrity You are honest, careful, trustworthy, and protective of confidential information. Excellence You care about producing strong work product and improving over time. Ownership You take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks. Coachability You receive feedback well, learn quickly, and improve your work product based on attorney guidance. Teamwork You collaborate effectively, communicate clearly, and help the broader team succeed. This role may grow into a full-time, long-term opportunity for someone who not only has the right technical skills, but also consistently demonstrates these values in daily work. ________________________________________ Role Overview We are seeking an internationally located attorney who can support U.S. attorneys in complex bankruptcy and commercial litigation matters. The person in this role will assist with: • Bankruptcy litigation strategy; • Adversary proceeding analysis; • Claims and defense mapping; • Discovery strategy; • Evidence organization; • Legal research; • Motion and pleading analysis; • Litigation knowledge-base development; • Settlement leverage analysis; • Attorney-level written work product. This role requires more than legal research. We need someone who can think strategically, synthesize messy facts, identify what matters, and help develop practical litigation recommendations. All work will be performed under the supervision of U.S.-licensed attorneys. This role does not involve appearing in U.S. courts, independently providing U.S. legal advice, or holding yourself out as a U.S.-licensed attorney unless independently authorized to do so. ________________________________________ What This Role Is This is a sophisticated legal strategy support role for someone who can help senior attorneys think through difficult litigation problems. You may be asked to: • Read pleadings, discovery responses, court filings, contracts, correspondence, and factual records; • Identify key factual and legal issues; • Prepare claim-element charts and litigation theory matrices; • Analyze strengths and weaknesses of claims and defenses; • Develop discovery plans and deficiency lists; • Prepare research memoranda; • Organize case chronologies and fact timelines; • Assist with witness maps, entity relationship charts, and issue inventories; • Evaluate settlement leverage and procedural options; • Help build structured litigation knowledge bases. ________________________________________ What This Role Is Not This is not: • A general virtual assistant role; • A basic paralegal role; • A routine document review role; • A U.S. court appearance role; • A client-facing U.S. legal advice role; • An independent U.S. law practice role. We are looking for someone who can work at an attorney-level of sophistication while operating under the supervision and direction of U.S.-licensed attorneys. ________________________________________ Core Responsibilities 1. Bankruptcy Litigation Strategy Assist with analysis of U.S. bankruptcy litigation matters, including adversary proceedings, contested matters, claim objections, creditor/debtor disputes, and related commercial litigation. Potential assignments may include: • Evaluating procedural posture; • Identifying dispositive motion opportunities; • Analyzing pleadings, counterclaims, and affirmative defenses; • Preparing litigation strategy memoranda; • Developing issue lists for senior attorneys; • Evaluating timing, leverage, and strategic options. ________________________________________ 2. Claims and Defense Analysis Assist with mapping and evaluating causes of action, defenses, and litigation theories, including: • Fraudulent transfer; • Preference claims; • Breach of fiduciary duty; • Aiding and abetting; • Alter ego / veil piercing; • Equitable subordination; • Turnover; • Claim objections; • Automatic stay issues; • Dischargeability issues; • Estate claims; • Derivative claims; • Professional negligence / malpractice; • Attorney-client privilege disputes; • Conflicts of interest. ________________________________________ 3. Discovery Strategy and Evidence Organization Support discovery planning and evidence analysis, including: • Preparing discovery request frameworks; • Reviewing interrogatory responses and document productions; • Identifying discovery gaps and deficiencies; • Building fact chronologies; • Creating witness and entity maps; • Preparing deposition issue outlines; • Organizing evidence by claim element; • Developing document-to-issue matrices. ________________________________________ 4. Legal Research and Written Work Product Prepare clear, practical, attorney-ready work product, including: • Research memoranda; • Case law summaries; • Litigation options memos; • Claim and defense element charts; • Bankruptcy rule analysis; • Procedural strategy notes; • Local rule and bankruptcy court practice research; • Comparative analysis of litigation strategies. Work product must be concise, well-organized, accurate, and useful to senior attorneys making real litigation decisions. ________________________________________ 5. Litigation Knowledge Base and Case Intelligence Support Assist with building structured litigation intelligence systems, including: • Party relationship maps; • Entity ownership and control charts; • Claim-to-evidence matrices; • Timeline databases; • Privilege challenge matrices; • Discovery deficiency trackers; • Motion and pleading issue inventories; • Settlement leverage summaries. We value candidates who can not only complete assignments but help create repeatable systems for complex litigation analysis. ________________________________________ Required Qualifications Candidates should have: • A law degree; • Admission or licensure as an attorney in at least one non-U.S. jurisdiction; • Strong written English and legal drafting skills; • Minimum 5+ years of litigation, insolvency, restructuring, bankruptcy, creditor-rights, or complex commercial dispute experience; • Meaningful experience working with U.S. legal materials or U.S.-style litigation; • Strong legal research and analytical skills; • Ability to work with complex facts, large records, and ambiguous litigation materials; • Strong judgment, confidentiality, attention to detail, and reliability; • Comfort working remotely and asynchronously; • Willingness to work under U.S. attorney supervision; • Willingness to integrate into the firm’s systems, workflows, and expectations. ________________________________________ Preferred Qualifications Preferred candidates may have experience with: • U.S. bankruptcy adversary proceedings; • Chapter 7 or Chapter 11 litigation; • Fraudulent transfer, preference, claim objection, or asset recovery litigation; • Creditor-rights disputes; • Fiduciary-duty litigation; • Alter ego or veil-piercing analysis; • Professional liability or attorney-client privilege disputes; • PACER, bankruptcy dockets, U.S. federal court filings, or U.S. legal research platforms; • Discovery management and deposition preparation; • Litigation databases, case chronologies, and evidence matrices; • AI-assisted legal research or litigation knowledge management; • Remote collaboration with U.S.-based attorneys or law firms. ________________________________________ General Expectations for Working With Rose Law Firm The successful candidate must demonstrate: • Strong communication and collaboration skills; • Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines; • Responsiveness during required sync hours; • Advance notice if unavailable for scheduled meetings; • Adaptability and proactive problem-solving; • Accountability and ownership of assigned work; • High attention to detail; • Respect for deadlines, confidentiality, and attorney supervision; • Willingness to comply with firm systems, workflows, templates, and instructions; • Comfort receiving feedback and improving work product over time; • Professionalism in written and verbal communication. This role is not compatible with someone who is unavailable during required sync hours, unable to reliably attend meetings, unwilling to use Upwork’s automatic time tracker, or unable to operate in a structured remote professional environment. Preference may be given to solo practitioners, small-firm attorneys, independent legal consultants, or freelancers who have meaningful availability. This position is generally not compatible with candidates who already have another full-time job that prevents reliable responsiveness during required sync hours. ________________________________________ Compensation Hourly Rate: $12–$15/hour, depending on experience, demonstrated skill level, and fit for the role. Rose Law Firm typically compensates international supporting paralegals in the $5–$15/hour range depending on role, experience, responsibility level, performance, and demonstrated value. This position is at the higher end of that range because we are seeking someone with unusually strong legal analysis, writing ability, judgment, and experience with complex U.S. bankruptcy or insolvency-related litigation. The final hourly rate will depend on demonstrated ability to: • Analyze complex U.S. litigation materials; • Assist with bankruptcy adversary proceeding strategy; • Prepare attorney-level research memoranda and litigation roadmaps; • Evaluate claims, defenses, evidence, discovery issues, and procedural posture; • Work independently while remaining fully aligned with U.S. attorney supervision; • Produce clear, reliable, strategically useful written work product; • Communicate consistently during required sync hours; and • Integrate into RLF’s remote team systems and workflow expectations. Candidates seeking compensation above this range may explain their expectations, but the anticipated compensation range for this role is $12–$15/hour. ________________________________________ Potential Growth This role can begin on a part-time, project-based, or flexible schedule. However, for exceptional talent, it can grow into a long-term or full-time role. The strongest candidates will be those who combine: • Bankruptcy and complex litigation sophistication; • Excellent written English; • Strong independent judgment; • Reliable daily communication; • Commitment to the firm’s systems; • Personal alignment with Integrity, Excellence, Ownership, Coachability, and Teamwork. We are looking for someone who can become a trusted long-term member of the litigation support team. ________________________________________ What Success Looks Like A successful candidate will be able to: • Quickly understand complex litigation records; • Identify the key issues that matter; • Prepare clear and useful written analysis; • Help attorneys evaluate litigation strategy; • Organize facts, claims, defenses, and evidence in a structured way; • Communicate reliably and professionally; • Attend required meetings and collaborate during mandatory sync hours; • Track time accurately through Upwork; • Improve with feedback; • Become a trusted member of the litigation support team. Over time, an exceptional candidate may become a core strategic support resource for complex litigation and bankruptcy-related matters at the firm. ________________________________________ How to Apply Please submit: 1. Your CV or resume; 2. A brief cover letter explaining your experience with U.S. bankruptcy, insolvency, creditor-rights, restructuring, or complex commercial litigation; 3. A description of one complex litigation matter you supported, without disclosing confidential information; 4. Any redacted or sanitized writing sample that demonstrates legal analysis, if available. In your application, please answer the following questions: 1. Are you licensed as an attorney? If yes, in what jurisdiction? 2. Describe your experience with U.S. bankruptcy litigation, adversary proceedings, contested matters, or insolvency-related disputes. 3. Have you worked on matters involving fraudulent transfers, preference claims, claim objections, alter ego, fiduciary duty, asset recovery, or professional liability? Please describe without revealing confidential information. 4. What types of written work product have you prepared for attorneys or litigation teams? 5. Are you comfortable working under the supervision of U.S.-licensed attorneys without independently providing U.S. legal advice? 6. Are you available during 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, for required workflow coordination and meetings? 7. Do you have reliable high-speed internet, a professional camera and microphone, and a quiet workspace for camera-on meetings? 8. Are you willing to use Upwork’s automatic time tracker for all work? 9. What is your expected hourly rate within the $12–$15/hour range? 10. What weekly availability can you offer? Applications that demonstrate real bankruptcy litigation experience, strong written English, careful judgment, reliable availability, and alignment with our values will receive priority.
