AI Consumer-Products Startup Formulations
Worldwide
We are Genie, an AI consumer-products startup. Our AI drafts custom cosmetic and skincare formulations, and experienced cosmetic chemists review those drafts to catch errors and propose corrections. That review is the core of our product quality, so we are looking for a formulator who treats an audit as real bench-informed analysis, not a quick gut-check. The AI does the first draft. A first draft is not a product. The thing that separates a credible formula from a plausible-looking one is a chemist who can read it and say "this preservation system will not hold," "that active is in the wrong phase," or "that INCI does not exist." If you are tired of vague "take a look at my formula" gigs, this is the opposite. Every audit is structured, every correction is captured. Each audit takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes. Pay is about $20-$40 per completed audit, negotiable with experience. The work is remote, async, paid per audit, and steady if it is a good fit. What you will do - Audit AI-generated formulations across skincare, beauty and color cosmetics, and sunscreen. For each formula you will check INCI accuracy, ingredient percentages, phase placement (water, oil, cool-down), the preservation system, physical and microbial stability, regulatory compliance, and manufacturability. - Propose a corrected formula with brief, specific reasoning for each change. We want the "why," not just a red mark. Not "this looks off," but what is wrong, why, and what it should be instead. - Take part in a one-time calibration study near the start. You will independently audit a shared set of about 28 formulas, on your own and without comparing notes with our other reviewer, so we can measure how closely two qualified chemists agree. This is standard inter-rater reliability work, and it is how we trust the review at scale. What we are looking for Must-haves: - Hands-on cosmetic and personal-care formulation experience: emulsions, actives, and preservation systems. Bench formulation, not QC or regulatory alone. - Strong INCI literacy. You can spot a wrong or implausible INCI, an off percentage, a misplaced phase, or a stability risk on read. - Regulatory familiarity across CIR, US FDA cosmetics, and EU Annexes. - Comfort working from a written formula and giving structured, specific written feedback. Nice-to-haves: - Experience across multiple categories, especially color cosmetics and sunscreen/SPF. - Familiarity with composite raw materials handled as single trade ingredients, for example Olivem 1000 or BTMS-50, rather than broken into their components. Details - Pay: about $40 per completed audit, negotiable with experience. Piecework, paid per audit. - Time: roughly 20 to 30 minutes per audit once you are calibrated to our format. - Format: fully remote and async. You work from written formulas on your own schedule. - Volume: steady ongoing audit work if it is a good fit, starting with the calibration study. To apply, briefly tell us about your hands-on formulation experience, the categories you know best, and one preservation or stability problem you have caught and corrected. Candidates who show real bench judgment will be prioritized.
