Contract Video Editor — Documentary, Social Media, and Client Video Projects
Worldwide
We are seeking a contract video editor to support ongoing video projects for two related brands: **Beyond the Cushion** and **Orange Photography**. **Beyond the Cushion** is a documentary-style multimedia project exploring the lived experiences of Buddhist practitioners in the modern world. The videos for this project are rooted in interviews, personal stories, spiritual reflection, and long-form documentary storytelling. The editing style should feel intimate, thoughtful, emotionally grounded, and respectful of the subjects’ lived experiences. **Orange Photography** is a professional photography and creative agency brand. The video work under Orange Photography is primarily focused on client projects, including promotional videos, event recaps, brand storytelling, social media content, short-form marketing videos, and other commercial deliverables. These projects may require a more polished, client-facing style with clear pacing, strong visual presentation, and attention to brand goals. The ideal candidate is someone who can move comfortably between documentary storytelling and agency-style client work. We are looking for an editor who understands how to shape a story, work with interview footage, select meaningful moments, and create polished videos for web, social media, and promotional use. **Core Responsibilities** Edit video projects for both Beyond the Cushion and Orange Photography. Shape interview-based footage into compelling short-form and longer-form stories. Create documentary-style edits for Beyond the Cushion that preserve authenticity, emotional depth, and the integrity of each subject’s story. Edit client-facing videos for Orange Photography, including promotional pieces, event highlights, social media reels, and branded video content. Review raw footage, identify strong soundbites, and build narrative structure from interviews and supporting visuals. Work with b-roll, still photography, music, captions, graphics, and audio to create cohesive final edits. Prepare videos for multiple formats, including website, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other social media platforms. Create vertical, square, and horizontal versions of videos as needed. Clean up audio, balance dialogue, add music, and perform basic sound mixing. Apply color correction and basic color grading to create polished, consistent visuals. Collaborate on pacing, tone, story direction, and final delivery. Organize project files clearly and maintain an efficient editing workflow. Revise edits based on feedback and deliver final files in appropriate formats. **Required Experience** Strong experience editing video for digital platforms, social media, websites, and client deliverables. Experience with documentary-style editing, especially interview-driven storytelling. Experience editing promotional, branded, event, or commercial video content. Strong storytelling instincts and the ability to identify emotionally resonant moments in raw footage. Proficiency in **DaVinci Resolve and/or Adobe Premiere Pro** is required. Ability to work with mixed media, including video footage, still photography, audio, text overlays, captions, and music. Comfort creating multiple aspect ratios and platform-specific versions of the same video. Basic audio cleanup, sound balancing, and color correction skills. Strong attention to pacing, emotion, visual continuity, and overall polish. Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and meet agreed deadlines. **Preferred Experience** Experience editing spiritual, cultural, documentary, nonprofit, educational, or human-interest content. Experience working with interview transcripts or pulling selects from long-form interviews. Experience creating social media reels, teaser videos, trailers, and short promotional clips. Experience with motion graphics, lower thirds, title cards, and simple animated text. Experience with YouTube formatting, podcast video clips, or long-form documentary content. A strong eye for photography, composition, and visual storytelling. **Project Scope** This is a contract role with the potential for ongoing work. Initial projects may include editing short social media videos, documentary interview clips, promotional videos, and client-facing brand pieces. For **Beyond the Cushion**, the work will often involve shaping meaningful excerpts from interviews into short documentary-style stories that can live on the website, YouTube, and social media. These edits should feel sincere, spacious, and emotionally honest rather than overly commercial. For **Orange Photography**, the work will be more client-focused and may include faster-paced promotional edits, event recaps, business profile videos, social media content, and other agency-style deliverables. **Ideal Fit** The right editor should be both technically skilled and emotionally sensitive. We are looking for someone who can recognize the heart of a story, not just assemble footage. Beyond the Cushion requires patience, nuance, and respect for personal and spiritual narratives. Orange Photography requires polish, professionalism, and the ability to deliver strong visual work for clients. This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys meaningful storytelling but can also shift into clean, effective commercial editing when needed. Please include examples of your previous video editing work, especially projects involving documentary interviews, personal storytelling, social media edits, client videos, or branded content. Also note whether your primary editing platform is **DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, or both**.
