Summary

Project Overview I need one dramatic, ultra-wide image of Earth at night for a 72-inch-wide × 36-inch-high metal wall print. I will provide two AI-generated reference images showing the general visual style, composition, atmosphere, and level of drama I am looking for. These reference images are creative guidelines only. They are not reliable geographic references. The most important requirement is that the city lights on Earth are based on real nighttime satellite data and remain accurately positioned. The final image can be artistically enhanced, but the underlying light locations must be geographically accurate and defensible. Primary Goal Create a visually spectacular, cinematic Earth-at-night image that includes as much as reasonably possible of: The eastern United States Europe North Africa The Middle East India The view does not need to represent a perfectly literal photograph from one exact orbital altitude. A widened, higher-orbit, or mildly artistically adjusted perspective is acceptable. However, any artistic adjustment must preserve the alignment between: Landmasses Coastlines Major population centers City-light patterns The image should look believable to a knowledgeable viewer, even though the overall composition may be more dramatic than a normal orbital photograph. Reference Images I will provide two AI-generated Earth-at-night images. Please use them only as references for: Overall mood Camera angle Earth curvature Composition Warm amber and gold lighting Deep blacks Thin blue atmospheric glow Subtle clouds Cinematic contrast Premium wall-art appearance Do not copy the city-light locations, roads, coastlines, or geographic details from the AI images. The AI references may contain inaccurate or invented illumination. Those inaccuracies must be replaced with the real VIIRS light layer. Priority Order When making decisions, please follow this order: Real VIIRS data controls all city-light locations and distributions. Real geographic textures control coastlines and landmasses. The two AI references guide the mood, composition, contrast, and artistic treatment. Artistic enhancement may improve brightness and drama, but must not invent new cities, highways, borders, or illuminated regions. Required Technical Approach Please use a prepared global EOG/NOAA VIIRS nighttime-light texture as a geographically locked emission map on an Earth sphere in Blender or comparable 3D software. The VIIRS texture should remain accurately aligned with the Earth surface texture throughout the project. This is intended to be a streamlined rendering job. It should not require extensive raw satellite-data processing, custom GIS analysis, animation, or detailed 3D modeling. A suitable workflow would be: Apply a high-resolution Earth surface texture to a sphere. Apply a prepared global VIIRS nighttime-light texture as the emission layer. Add a subtle cloud layer. Add a thin atmospheric glow. Position the camera to create the requested wide geographic composition. Artistically color-grade and enhance the real light data. Render at high resolution and prepare the final file for large-format printing. Accuracy Requirements The accuracy of the nighttime illumination is the most important part of this project. The final image should accurately reflect recognizable real-world patterns such as: The eastern U.S. population corridor Major European population centers The Nile Valley and Nile Delta The Persian Gulf region Major population corridors in India Correctly dark oceans and deserts Sparse illumination in genuinely low-population areas The Nile should appear as irregular settlements and populated corridors beside the river, not as a perfectly continuous neon line. Please avoid: Invented city clusters Glowing country borders Fake highway networks Uniform illumination across empty land Excessively continuous light patterns Misplaced major cities Bright oceans Fantasy-style illumination Persistent industrial lights or gas flares may remain if they appear in the source data, but they should not visually overpower the genuine population patterns. Artistic Direction The final image should still feel dramatic and luxurious. Please artistically enhance the real VIIRS data through: Warm amber or golden color grading Increased local contrast Controlled brightness enhancement Restrained bloom around major cities Deep ocean and desert blacks Subtle terrain visibility A thin blue atmospheric rim Soft, realistic cloud coverage Minimal and understated stars Strong but tasteful Earth curvature The enhancement should make the real data look cinematic without relocating or inventing lights. Please avoid: Large artificial starbursts Heavy aurora Excessive stars Oversaturated blue atmosphere Cartoon-like glow Crushed black areas with no detail Excessive sharpening or AI-generated texture Composition The desired composition should show: The eastern United States toward the left Europe and North Africa near the center The Middle East farther right India toward the right side of the image A high-orbit perspective, wide field of view, or mild perspective adjustment is acceptable. The final image should still feel dimensional and spherical. It should not look like a flat world map placed on a slightly curved surface. The Earth should dominate the composition, with enough dark space above it to create visual drama without wasting too much of the print area. Deliverables Please provide: One low-resolution composition proof before the final render One reasonable revision round One final image at 10,800 × 5,400 pixels Correct 2:1 aspect ratio High-quality PNG or TIFF No text, logos, borders, frames, signatures, or watermarks A file suitable for printing at 72 × 36 inches Confirmation of which VIIRS or nighttime-light source was used An acceptable workflow is to render natively at approximately 8K and carefully upscale and sharpen the final image to 10,800 × 5,400. Print-Quality Requirements The final image should look clean when viewed from several feet away and should hold up reasonably well under closer inspection. Please avoid: Pixelation Smearing Banding in the dark sky Muddy black areas Over-sharpening Artificially generated micro-detail Compression artifacts Low-resolution cloud textures Large blurred light blobs Success Criteria The project will be considered successful when: The city lights are based on real VIIRS data. Major population centers appear in believable locations. The Earth surface and light layer remain properly aligned. Oceans, deserts, and sparsely populated regions remain appropriately dark. The image retains the dramatic mood of the two AI references. The result looks like premium NASA-inspired fine art rather than an AI-generated fantasy map. The final file is suitable for a 72 × 36-inch metal print. Budget and Timeline Fixed-price budget: $150 Maximum budget: $200, only if agreed upon before work begins. Preferred turnaround: 2–4 days This is intended to be a focused 2–4-hour active-labor project for someone already experienced with Blender, Earth textures, emission materials, and high-resolution rendering. Suggested Milestones Milestone 1 — $25 Provide a low-resolution composition proof showing: The visible geographic regions Camera angle Earth curvature Basic light placement Approximate atmosphere and visual treatment Milestone 2 — $125 Provide: Refined final render One revision round Final 10,800 × 5,400 print-ready file Any additional cost must be approved in advance. The total project price may not exceed $200. Questions for Applicants Please answer the following: Have you previously worked with equirectangular Earth textures or nighttime emission maps? How will you keep the VIIRS light texture accurately aligned with the Earth surface? Which prepared VIIRS or nighttime-light texture would you use? Can you create the requested composition without manually inventing city lights? Can you provide a low-resolution proof before completing the final render? Can you deliver the final image at 10,800 × 5,400 pixels? What is your fixed price and estimated turnaround? Please share one or two relevant examples of Earth, space, nighttime, cinematic, or environmental rendering work. Important Final Note The two attached AI images are provided only to demonstrate the desired emotional impact and artistic direction. They are not geographic references. The finished artwork should preserve their dramatic atmosphere while replacing all AI-generated city-light patterns with accurate, geographically aligned nighttime-light data. The VIIRS data controls where the lights appear. The AI references control how dramatic and beautiful the final image feels.
