Cross-platform mobile developer to build a drawing-comparison app for art students - iOS + Android
Worldwide
I'm an artist and drawing teacher with twenty years of experience teaching online and in person. My partner and I are building an app called Drawing Genie, and we're looking for the developer who will build it. The idea is simple to describe. Art students check their drawings by photographing them and overlaying the photo on their reference image - adjusting opacity, flipping, comparing. You can already do this in Photoshop or Procreate, but the process is clunky and most students never bother. Drawing Genie white-gloves that workflow into something a beginner can do in seconds. To be precise about v1: the student photographs or imports their drawing, then positions it over the reference manually - drag, pinch, rotate, opacity slider, flip. Manual alignment, done well. Automatic alignment is a possible v2 feature and we'd want your view on its feasibility, but it is not in this scope. If you think we've misjudged anything here, say so in your proposal. We want a developer who pushes back. A few things you should know before applying. We had a first version underway with a Unity developer and decided Unity was the wrong tool for this. We're starting fresh, so you won't inherit anyone else's code. You'll propose the stack - we expect something like React Native or Flutter so one codebase serves both stores, but we'll listen to a good argument. The app will be developed with Claude Code. This is a requirement, not a preference. A colleague of mine prototyped the core overlay mechanic with it in an afternoon, and we know what fluent AI-assisted development makes possible. We understand a demo is not a product - the budget here is for production quality across both stores, not a prototype. The code must be written fresh for us: no purchased templates, no off-the-shelf app kits, no repurposed codebase from another client. Standard platform services for things like subscription billing are fine and expected. You need the engineering judgment to know when the tool is wrong. Include the word "graphite" somewhere in your proposal. This is a subscription app, which means it's never really finished. OS updates, store policy changes, bug fixes, small feature releases. The arrangement is simple: a flat fee for the v1 build, and after launch we pay you for updates as they're needed, quoted per job. No retainer, no obligation between jobs - but you need to stay reachable and willing to take that work. If you build things and disappear, this isn't for you.
