Data Clean Up and Standardization

We are seeking a detail-oriented freelancer to clean, standardize, validate, and reconcile fixed asset and inventory data. Our field team collects inventory information such as location, manufacturer, model, serial number, description, quantity, and asset tag. This data must be reviewed and matched against client-provided fixed asset records. We currently have approximately 15,000 records across four projects, with the potential for ongoing daily work. Responsibilities Clean and standardize inventory data in Microsoft Excel. Correct formatting, spelling, and inconsistent manufacturer or model names. Verify manufacturers and model numbers using official websites, product manuals, or manufacturer catalogs when available. Document sources used for researched corrections. Match field records to client records using serial numbers, descriptions, manufacturers, models, locations, and other available information. Return the correct asset tag or client asset ID for confirmed matches. Flag potential matches, duplicates, missing information, and records requiring review. Preserve the original data and document significant changes. Perform quality-control checks before submitting completed files. Required Skills Strong Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills Experience with data cleanup, standardization, and reconciliation Strong online research and product-identification skills Excellent attention to detail Experience with fixed assets, inventory, accounting data, or asset-management systems is preferred Deliverables Cleaned and standardized data Verified manufacturers and model numbers where possible Source links for researched corrections Confirmed asset-tag matches Clearly identified potential and unmatched records Notes explaining non-obvious corrections Accuracy is just as important as speed. Do not force uncertain matches or guess missing information; flag those records for review.
