UI/UX Designer — Premium Long-Form "Report Reader" (Editorial / Magazine Feel, Mobile-First)
Worldwide
We're an AI-powered personalized astrology platform. A user enters their birth details and gets a long, deeply personalized, plain-English report (who they are, love, career, money, health, timing, and more). The heart of the product is the "report reader": a long, scrollable page (web, also shown inside our mobile app) where people read their personalized report. Important — this is a design role, not a development role. Our engineering team implements everything in-house. We need world-class design: the direction, the system, and dev-ready Figma with specs. You will not be asked to write any code — we just need designs we can build from. What we need: We've iterated on the reader, but it still needs a true premium, editorial, "can't-stop-reading" feel — less "dashboard of cards," more beautiful personalized magazine / high-end book. Concretely, we want you to: * Maximize readability — our audience is broad and includes 50+ readers. Long text must feel effortless on a phone. * Cut the clutter — fewer, bigger, well-spaced sections instead of grids of tiny cards; fix awkward hierarchy (e.g. oversized icons next to tiny titles). * Elevate the typography & rhythm — confident headings, comfortable body, generous whitespace, clear section flow. * Design the recurring building blocks — section headers, body, pull-quotes/callouts, "date/timing" moments, score/rating moments, table-of-contents/navigation, and collapse-expand patterns. Scope & deliverables: 1. A short audit of our current report reader (what's hurting readability/premium feel) — we'll give you a live sample to review once we connect. 2. Production-ready, mobile-first designs for the full reader (~7 sections) + desktop. 3. A small reusable design system (type scale, spacing, color tokens, core components) consistent across every section. 4. Loading/empty states + light motion/micro-interaction guidance (annotated — our engineers implement it). 5. Dev-ready Figma with specs and tokens, organized for a clean handoff to our engineers. (No implementation on your side — we build it.) Brand direction (so we're aligned): * Dark, cosmic, premium. A near-black background with a deep violet primary, a warm gold accent, and a soft pink highlight. * Type: an elegant high-contrast serif for headings (Playfair Display) paired with a clean humanist sans for body (DM Sans). * Tone: warm, personal, plain-English — never clinical, jargon-y, or "spooky/gimmicky." * (We'll share the exact color and type tokens at kickoff.) You're a great fit if you have: 1. A portfolio of long-form / editorial / content-heavy reading UIs (premium content apps, editorial sites, e-readers, high-end report/onboarding products) — not just landing pages and dashboards. 2. Mastery of typography, hierarchy, whitespace, and readability. 3. Mobile-first instincts and accessibility awareness (contrast, comfortable sizes for older readers). 4. A strong, opinionated point of view on what makes long text a pleasure to read. 5. Bonus: wellness / spiritual / lifestyle app experience. To apply, please include: 1. 2–3 relevant portfolio pieces of long-form reading/editorial UI (in your Upwork portfolio, or described) — call out which ones and why they're relevant. 2. In 2–3 sentences: your approach to making long, text-heavy content feel effortless and premium to read on mobile. 3. Your design + handoff process — how you structure Figma, specs, and tokens so engineers can build cleanly from your work. Screening question: What are the top 3 things that make long, text-heavy content feel effortless and premium to read on a phone?
