Documentary Archival & Stock Footage Researcher

We're looking for a detail-oriented visual researcher to help source powerful archival footage and photographs for a documentary theater and film project exploring the human impact of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The project is built from real interviews with U.S. veterans, refugees, interpreters, and displaced civilians whose lives were profoundly affected by these wars. What you'll do For each interview (typically 2–5 minutes long), you'll: Watch the interview and identify the key events, locations, and moments being described. Find compelling archival video footage and still photographs that visually illustrate the story. Source footage from news archives, stock libraries, historical collections, government archives, or other reputable sources. Include both free and licensed material. It is completely fine if footage needs to be purchased—we simply need the best available options. Organize everything clearly in folders or spreadsheets with links, timestamps, source information, licensing details, and brief notes. We're looking for someone who: Has experience sourcing archival footage or documentary visual research. Is an excellent internet researcher. Has a strong visual storytelling sense—not just finding literal footage, but imagery that emotionally supports the narrative. Is highly organized and reliable. Is familiar with sources such as Getty Images, AP Archive, Reuters, Shutterstock, Pond5, Alamy, government archives, museum collections, or similar resources. Ideal experience Experience with any of the following is a plus: Documentary filmmaking Historical or investigative research Archival licensing News footage research Middle East history Military history Human rights or humanitarian storytelling Deliverables For each interview, you'll provide: Organized folders of selected footage and photos Source links Licensing/purchase information Short notes explaining why each asset matches the story This has the potential to become an ongoing collaboration across dozens of interviews.
