Documentary Videographer – Tokyo Social Issues (Shakai Mondai) & Urban Density

I am a documentary filmmaker (DB Documentaries) looking for a professional, "run-and-gun" videographer based in Tokyo for a one-day shoot. My channel focuses on human-interest stories that explore "Shakai Mondai" (social issues), specifically regarding urban density and how residents adapt to the rising costs of living in major global cities. The Project: We are documenting the reality of "micro-living" (Geki-sema) in central Tokyo. The goal is to capture an observational, dignified story of life in a 5-square-meter windowless room. We want to show how the resident organizes their life and the resilience required to live in the heart of the city. A Note for Local Experts: While I am currently looking into specific Geki-sema locations, I value local knowledge. I am open to adjusting the focus based on your local expertise. The Approach: This is a respectful, observational documentary. We are looking for a "fly-on-the-wall" aesthetic—raw and authentic, rather than overly produced or commercial. It is vital that the subject is treated with the utmost respect. Requirements: Cultural Sensitivity: Experience filming social topics in Japan with an understanding of local etiquette and the importance of maintaining the subject's dignity. Small Space Expertise: Skill in filming in very tight, compact interiors (5-10 sqm). A wide-angle lens (e.g., 16-35mm) and the ability to work with available/low light are essential. Communication: Fluency in Japanese is a major plus to help facilitate a comfortable environment for the subject.
