# Draftsperson – Structural Steel Detailer - Drawings from STEP Files (Ongoing Work) We are looking for an experienced **Structural Steel Draftsperson** to assist with updating engineering drawing packages from existing 3D STEP models. This is **not an engineering design role**. The building has already been engineered and modelled. Your role is to accurately update our engineering drawing package so it reflects the supplied 3D model and includes all required connection and construction details. We have a steady workload of approximately **3–6 projects per week** and are looking to build a long-term relationship with a reliable freelancer. --- ## What We Will Provide For each project you will receive: * A complete 3D STEP (.step) model of the building. * An existing PDF engineering drawing package to update. * Clear mark-ups and written instructions identifying required revisions. * Standard connection details and examples to follow. * Sample completed drawing packages demonstrating our drafting standards. --- ## Scope of Work Your responsibilities will include: * Review the supplied STEP model and use it as the reference for the latest building design. * Update the supplied engineering drawing package so it matches the 3D model. * Produce or revise structural steel connection details where instructed, including: * Beam-to-column connections * Knee plate connections * Apex connections * Footing connections * Bracing details * Miscellaneous structural details * Add any missing sections, dimensions, callouts and construction notes. * Ensure the entire drawing package is accurate, consistent and presentation-ready. * Follow our existing drafting standards throughout. **Important:** You will **not** be modifying the 3D STEP model. The model is supplied as a reference only. --- ## Deliverables For each project we require: * Updated Engineering Drawing Package (PDF) * Complete connection and construction details incorporated into the drawing set * Accurate dimensions, notes and call-outs * A clean, professional drawing package suitable for construction --- ## Required Experience The ideal applicant will have: * Proven experience detailing structural steel buildings, sheds, warehouses or industrial buildings. * Experience interpreting and working from STEP (.step) models. * Experience preparing structural steel fabrication or engineering drawings. * Excellent attention to detail. * Strong understanding of structural steel connections. * Ability to work independently and consistently. Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable: * Tekla Structures * Autodesk Advance Steel * AutoCAD * BricsCAD * SolidWorks * DraftSight * FreeCAD (or similar STEP viewer) --- ## Please Include With Your Proposal Please include the following: * Examples of structural steel detailing or shed projects you have completed. * Which software you use to: * View STEP files * Prepare engineering drawings * Edit or produce PDF drawing packages * Your hourly rate or fixed-price estimate. * Your typical turnaround time for a standard shed drawing package. * Your availability each week. --- ## Screening Question Please describe your typical workflow for taking a supplied STEP model and producing or updating a structural drawing package. Include: * The software you use at each stage. * How you create or edit connection details. * How you ensure dimensions and drawing information remain accurate. --- ## About the Work This is a **drafting and detailing role only**. You will **not** be responsible for structural design or engineering calculations. The engineering has already been completed. Your role is to accurately update our engineering drawings from the supplied STEP model while incorporating the required connection details and construction information.
