Title ESP32 + Native iOS Developer Needed — Connect Precision GPS Hardware to iPhone/iPad Project Summary We are building a rugged field device that sends live, high-precision location/elevation data to an iPhone or iPad. We need a developer with real embedded ESP32 and native iOS experience to prove the hardware-to-phone connection, then continue into a simple field-guidance app. This is a real hardware project, not a mockup or a generic consumer app. The successful developer will receive a defined technical brief and will work with a client-supplied prototype after selection. Initial Contract: Phase 1 — Connection Proof The initial fixed-price contract is specifically for the connection proof. It must: 1. Read live position/elevation and quality data from a precision GPS receiver through an ESP32. 2. Establish a reliable local Wi-Fi connection between the ESP32 device and an iPhone/iPad. 3. Deliver a basic native iOS test app that shows live elevation, data quality, freshness of data, and connected/disconnected state. 4. Demonstrate reliable reconnection after a phone, Wi-Fi, or hardware restart. 5. Provide all source code, configuration instructions, and a short demonstration video. The client will approve the full field-app phase only after this connection proof works on the actual hardware. Follow-On Phase for the Successful Developer After Phase 1 is accepted, the same developer will be considered first for Phase 2: a simple native iPhone/iPad field app that lets an operator set a benchmark zero point, enter a target depth in feet/inches, and see a large live above / at / below target display. Phase 2 is intentionally not full 3D machine control, CAD plan import, continuous bucket tracking, Android development, or a website project. Brief Future Path This is intended to be a continuing hardware-and-software project for the successful developer. Each phase is separately scoped, priced, and approved after the prior phase works. Phase Public Description Phase 1 Prove reliable live data from the field device to an iPhone/iPad. Phase 2 Turn that connection into a simple, field-ready iPhone/iPad guidance app. Potential Phase 3 Support beta distribution, real-equipment testing, diagnostic improvements, and refinements from operator feedback. Later product features and any expansion beyond iPhone/iPad will be discussed only with the selected developer after the initial work is proven. Required Experience You must have demonstrated experience in both areas below, personally or as part of a named two-person team: • ESP32 firmware that reads serial/sensor data and sends it over Wi-Fi. • Native Swift/SwiftUI iPhone or iPad software that communicates with a local hardware device using TCP, UDP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or equivalent. Experience with NMEA, u-blox, GNSS, industrial telemetry, marine electronics, automotive data, or similar live-data products is preferred. Ownership and Work Style All firmware, iOS source code, configuration files, build instructions, and documentation must be transferred to and owned by the client. Work must be committed to a private client-owned Git repository. The developer must identify technical risks early and provide weekly written progress updates with a short video or screen recording. Proposal Instructions Start your proposal with CAT315. Then answer all five questions: 1. Link to or describe one iOS app you built that connected to a local hardware device or live data feed. What protocol did it use? 2. Describe one ESP32 project you built that read sensor/serial data and sent it over Wi-Fi. 3. What is your proposed approach to proving a stable ESP32-to-iPhone local connection before building the full field app? 4. What do you see as the largest risk in a real equipment-field test, and how would you reduce it? 5. Quote Phase 1 as a fixed price and separately state your estimated fixed price for the subsequent Phase 2 field app. Include your estimated timeline for each. Generic proposals and candidates without both iOS and ESP32 evidence will not be considered. Public Budget Setting Set the total project price to $3,000. This is an honest budget for the stated Phase 1 connection proof—not a fake placeholder for the full product. The post expressly tells candidates that Phase 2 is a separately priced follow-on after Phase 1 succeeds. This prevents the public budget from anchoring every applicant at a $10,000 whole-project quote while preserving the right to hire the best Phase 1 developer for the full app.
