PhD Economist / Econometrician Needed for Retail Energy Economic Analysis I am seeking a highly qualified PhD economist or econometrician to assist with a detailed economic and quantitative analysis involving the retail energy industry. The project requires rigorous economic analysis, quantitative modeling, and independent evaluation of business and financial information. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in economics and substantial experience with econometrics, statistical analysis, economic modeling, and quantitative research. Scope of Work The work may include: Economic and financial analysis of a retail energy business Analysis of revenue, costs, profitability, and margins Development of economic and quantitative models Econometric and statistical analysis Regression analysis and causal analysis where appropriate Analysis of customer and business-level economics Evaluation of pricing and profitability Forecasting and scenario analysis Identification and testing of key economic assumptions Interpretation of quantitative results Development of a rigorous analytical framework Preparation of clear, professional written findings and conclusions The project will involve substantial industry-specific information and business context. The client will provide detailed knowledge of the retail energy industry, including the business model, operating practices, pricing structures, customer economics, procurement, margins, and other relevant industry considerations. The economist's role will be to independently evaluate the information provided and apply appropriate economic and quantitative methodologies to the questions being examined. What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will have: A PhD in Economics, Econometrics, Applied Economics, or a closely related field Strong expertise in econometrics and statistical analysis Experience with economic modeling and quantitative research Strong understanding of regression analysis and causal inference Experience working with financial and/or business data Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities Strong written communication skills Ability to explain complex economic findings clearly Experience using statistical/econometric software such as Stata, R, Python, MATLAB, or SAS Experience with energy markets, electricity markets, utilities, or retail energy is highly desirable but not required. Important Qualifications This position requires a candidate who can work independently and objectively. The successful candidate should be comfortable evaluating assumptions critically, identifying weaknesses in an argument or model, proposing alternative methodologies, and reaching conclusions based on the evidence and analysis. The goal is to produce rigorous, defensible economic analysis, rather than simply confirming predetermined conclusions.
