Editorial Book Designer Needed for Private Archival Legacy Gift, Design + Print Coordination
Worldwide
We are creating a private printed legacy book as a meaningful gift for a close family friend. The book honors his parents, Holocaust survivors, using only public archival and communal sources. This is not a commercial book, not a memoir-writing project, and not a scrapbook. We will provide a prepared production packet for you to work from, including the manuscript, proposed page structure, source list, design direction, production notes, gift note language, and public-source references. Your role is to turn that packet into a beautiful, restrained, dignified printed book and coordinate the physical production of the finished gift. Scope: * Review the production packet we provide * Design a 36 to 44 page hardcover book layout * Create a quiet, archival, museum-catalog style design * Use typography, spacing, captions, and source notes carefully * Incorporate only approved public-source images, screenshots, or placeholders * Prepare a print-ready PDF for Mixbook, Printique, Blurb, Lulu, or another suitable printer * Provide an editable source file, preferably Adobe InDesign, Affinity Publisher, or Canva only if the design quality is strong * Coordinate printing of one final copy * Source a simple archival or premium presentation box * Package the book tastefully and ship the completed package to us * Provide receipts for all production expenses Design direction: * Elegant, minimal, restrained * White or warm ivory pages * Serif typography * No scrapbook style * No dramatic Holocaust imagery * No stock Holocaust imagery * No AI-generated images * No decorative distressing, flames, barbed wire, yellow stars, or melodrama * Should feel like a private archival volume or small museum publication Deliverables: 1. Print-ready PDF 2. Editable design file 3. Cover design 4. Interior layout 5. Final printer-ready files 6. One physical printed book, packaged and shipped to us 7. Receipts for printing, box, materials, and shipping Budget: Design fee: $250 to $400 fixed price, depending on portfolio and experience. Production expenses: reimbursed separately up to $150, with receipts and prior approval. Please reply with: 1. Two or three examples of book, memoir, archival, museum, nonprofit, or editorial layouts you have designed 2. Your fixed design fee 3. Your estimated production cost for printing, packaging, and shipping one copy 4. Your recommended printer and format 5. Your timeline 6. Confirmation that you can handle sensitive historical material with restraint and respect 7. Whether you work in InDesign, Affinity Publisher, Canva, or another tool 8. Confirmation that you are comfortable working from a prepared production packet rather than starting from scratch
