# Editorial Book Designer for Premium Wellness eBook Bundle (German) ## About the Project We manage the brand of Dr. Maren Kemper — a chemist and microbiome researcher, supplement founder, published author, and educator with a large following in the gut health and nutrition space. Her book Der Ballaststoff-Effekt was published by Südwest, one of Germany's leading publishers. We're currently producing a bundle of two eBooks, targeted for launch in July, and are looking for a designer to create the core design system and fully typeset both books. --- ## The Aesthetic (Most Important) Editorial, minimal, and premium. Think Kinfolk magazine meets high-end wellness brands such as Aesop and The Nue Co. This should not feel like a typical health guide. No clip art, no loud infographics, and no overly commercial design elements. ### Design Direction - Quality benchmark: the design should feel as refined as Dr. Kemper's published book Der Ballaststoff-Effekt (we'll share it as a reference) - Color palette: black, white, and warm beige - Typography: - PP Editorial New (or similar high-contrast editorial serif) for headlines - Poppins (or similar clean sans-serif) for body copy - Overall feel: - Beautifully typeset editorial publication - Calm, confident, science-led, and warm - Generous whitespace and strong typography - Premium wellness rather than "health guide" --- ## Scope & Deliverables ### 1. Core Design System Create the foundation for both books, including: - Master layout grid - Chapter opener template - Typographic hierarchy - Image integration style - Callout components - Recipe layouts - Footnotes and source styling - Other recurring design elements ### 2. Full Typesetting — Book 1 "Schlank durch Darm" - Content is finalized - Approximately 60–80 pages - We'll provide: - Final text - An AI-generated layout draft that serves only as a content map Your design will replace the draft entirely. ### 3. Full Typesetting — Book 2 "50 Alltagsrezepte" - Approximately 80–110 pages - 50 recipes plus introduction and supporting content - Text is currently being finalized ### 4. eBook Cover - Front cover only - Digital eBook format (no spine, flaps, or print jacket) - We'll share visual references and cover directions that Dr. Kemper likes --- ## Paid Sample Before Full Project Before committing to the full project, we'd like to start with a small paid sample to ensure the design direction is aligned. The sample should include: - One front-cover concept - One chapter opener - One content or recipe spread This is paid work. We do not ask for unpaid spec work. Once approved, we'll move directly into the full design system and typesetting project. --- ## Format & Assets - Format: A4, digital-first PDF - Please let us know whether you can also provide a print-ready version as an optional add-on - We provide all imagery: - Maren portraits - 50 recipe photos - Consistent visual style throughout - No stock image sourcing required ### Language The books are in German. You do not need to speak German fluently, but you should be comfortable handling German typography correctly, including: - Umlauts (ä, ö, ü) - ß - Proper hyphenation and text flow --- ## What to Include in Your Proposal Please include: 1. 2–3 relevant portfolio samples (editorial books, magazines, long-form layouts, or premium wellness publications) 2. Your fixed price and timeline for: - The paid sample - The full project 3. A realistic production timeline toward a July launch 4. Your software stack (InDesign, Figma, etc.) 5. Whether editable source files are included in the final delivery We're looking for someone with a strong editorial eye who can create something that feels timeless, premium, and worthy of a published author brand.
