We are developing an autonomous robotic cabinet system for last-mile delivery and are looking for an experienced electro-mechanical engineer with relevant experience in motion control systems, actuator/sensor selection, and mechanical design for robotics or automated equipment. The objective of this project is to design and specify the electro-mechanical subsystems of the robotic cabinet — motors, actuators, sensors, and supporting structural components — and produce a manufacturable design to then work with our engineering team and contract manufacturers to create prototypes. This is a design and specification engagement (CAD development, component selection, calculations, and documentation), not a request to build and test a working prototype. The design should consider relevant elements such as: • Motor and actuator selection (stepper, servo, BLDC) based on torque, speed, duty cycle, and load • Gear reduction, lead screws, belts, chains, and linear actuators for motion transmission • Bearing and linear guide selection • Sensor selection: limit switches, Hall sensors, optical sensors, encoders, proximity sensors • Safety interlocks and fail-safe mechanisms • Compatibility between motors, sensors, drivers, power supplies, and embedded control electronics • Electrical fundamentals: power budgets, driver compatibility, power distribution, grounding, EMI considerations, connector selection • Mechanical assemblies: brackets, mounts, linkages, sheet metal, machined parts, and injection-molded components • Design for manufacturability and serviceability • Tolerance stack-up and structural load paths • Interfaces with PCB and firmware/control systems • Environmental sealing and durability considerations, where relevant • Scalability of the design to future product variants Expected Deliverables: 1. Detailed CAD models and drawings for the electro-mechanical assembly (Creo preferred, SolidWorks acceptable) 2. BOM and sourcing recommendations for motors, sensors, and mechanical components 3. Design specifications and calculations (motor sizing, load analysis, tolerance stack-up) 4. Identification of relevant commercial components or existing technologies that could be adapted 5. Documentation package suitable for handoff to manufacturing partners 6. Review of the design with our engineering team in a technical discussion Relevant experience may include: • Electro-mechanical or mechatronic system design • Motion control system design (motors, actuators, gear systems) • Sensor integration into embedded systems • Robotics, automation, or industrial equipment design • CAD design for manufacturability (Creo or similar) • Experience with contract manufacturers or production handoff Hands-on experience designing robotic or automated mechanical systems from concept through a manufacturable design is strongly preferred.
