Energy Engineer Needed for Industrial Programs (Remote)

Summary

We are seeking an Industrial Energy Engineer to serve as the technical focal point across multiple concurrent industrial projects. This role blends hands-on engineering analysis with client-facing consulting—identifying, quantifying, and prioritizing energy opportunities across industrial utilities and process systems. You will develop clear savings models and implementation roadmaps, align stakeholders across operations/maintenance/engineering/finance, and support execution and verification. The ideal candidate is comfortable working remotely while driving results across multi-site programs and fast-moving project timelines. Responsibilities Lead energy engineering workstreams across multiple industrial projects in parallel, owning technical quality, schedule alignment, and deliverable completion. Analyze energy consumption using utility bills, interval meter data, and process/operational data to establish baselines and identify key drivers. Identify, scope, and evaluate Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) across industrial utilities and process systems (steam/boilers, compressed air, chilled water, cooling towers, pumps/fans, motors/VFDs, heat recovery, process controls). Develop a structured ECM register including measure description, assumptions, cost range, savings, risk/complexity, and recommended next steps. Build defensible savings models (kWh, kW, fuel, and CO₂ impact where applicable) and financial cases (payback, lifecycle economics, sensitivity analysis). Define energy metering strategies (what to meter, where to meter, frequency, data quality requirements) to support measurement, diagnostics, and ongoing performance tracking. Support or lead industrial assessments/audits (remote-first, with onsite support as needed) and produce a clear audit report with prioritized recommendations. Partner with automation/controls teams to identify opportunities involving instrumentation, controls, and operational setpoint optimization (without relying on “building-only” BAS framing). Coordinate with operations, maintenance, engineering, finance, vendors, and internal delivery teams to validate assumptions and ensure recommendations are implementation-ready. Develop an implementation roadmap (phasing, dependencies, outage needs, procurement considerations, commissioning approach) that stakeholders can execute. Create an M&V plan aligned to project needs (baseline method, performance period, data sources, normalization, and reporting cadence). Present findings and recommendations in client-facing formats, including executive summaries and presentations tailored to technical and leadership audiences. Track progress across the savings pipeline, maintain measure status, and support continuous improvement across a program or portfolio. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience). 5+ years of experience in industrial energy engineering, energy consulting, plant engineering, process utilities optimization, or related roles. Demonstrated experience with industrial utilities and systems: steam/boilers, compressed air, chilled water, pumping/fans, motors/VFDs, and/or heat recovery. Strong capability in developing engineering calculations and savings estimates with clear, auditable assumptions. Advanced Excel skills for engineering and financial modeling (structured workbooks, scenario analysis, pivot tables). Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; strong writing skills for client-ready deliverables. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a remote environment. Comfort working across time zones and coordinating with field/site teams and vendors Preferred Qualifications Experience developing or executing Measurement & Verification (M&V) approaches (e.g., IPMVP-aligned thinking) and regression-based normalization. Experience with energy metering, submetering programs, and data quality validation in industrial settings. Familiarity with industrial automation and controls integration concepts (instrumentation, PLC/DCS interfaces, control narratives, setpoint optimization). OT/IT awareness, including familiarity with Purdue Model concepts and/or industrial network segmentation basics. Exposure to historians, OPC, SCADA, or related industrial data environments (as a collaboration point with controls teams). Experience supporting projects in Mexico and/or LATAM, including stakeholder coordination and site expectations. Power analytics and reporting experience using Power BI or similar tools. Professional credentials such as CEM (Certified Energy Manager) or similar (helpful but not required). Tools/Systems Excel (advanced), PowerPoint, Word; SharePoint/Teams or equivalent collaboration tools Utility and interval data sources (utility portals, interval datasets, meter exports) Power/energy metering concepts and data (power meters, submeters, data loggers where applicable) Optional/Plus: Power BI (or similar), Python for data cleaning, SQL basics Optional/Plus: CMMS/EAM systems for maintenance context and asset strategy alignment Optional/Plus: Industrial data systems (process historians, SCADA environments) for operational insights Success Metrics (First 90–180 Days) Deliver 2–4 high-quality project packages including audit report, ECM register, savings model, and implementation roadmap. Establish a repeatable framework for baseline + opportunity identification using interval and operational data. Build a prioritized savings pipeline (kWh/kW/fuel) with clear assumptions and owner-ready next steps. Align stakeholders (ops/maintenance/engineering/finance) on recommended measures, phasing, and execution constraints. Produce an M&V plan and reporting cadence that supports measurable outcomes and leadership visibility. Improve consistency and quality of deliverables (templates, assumptions, review checkpoints) across multiple projects. Demonstrate effective remote execution: predictable communication, on-time deliverables, and proactive risk management. Work Model + Collaboration This role is remote-first (or hybrid where appropriate), with regular collaboration across engineering, automation/controls, project management, and client stakeholders. You will support U.S.-based projects and coordinate with Mexico/LATAM sites; flexibility for meetings across time zones is expected. Travel is as needed—primarily for site assessments, implementation support, or key milestones (commissioning/verification). Success in this role requires strong ownership, clear documentation, and consistent communication across parallel workstreams. Language Requirements English: Required Spanish: Strong plus, especially for stakeholder communication and project support in Mexico/LATAM Equal Opportunity Employer: We are an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
