Engine-level Arabic (RTL) font integration into Final Fantasy VII
Worldwide
I need an engineer to get a specific Arabic font (SST Arabic) rendering correctly in-game in Final Fantasy VII (1997), 2013 Steam version or 2026, run through the 7th Heaven mod manager (FFNx driver). This is a reverse-engineering / font-hacking task — not translation, and not a generic "modify the engine's text pipeline" job. The engine has no Arabic support: it draws glyphs left-to-right in byte order, with no shaping and no bidirectional/RTL handling. Most of the hard work is already done. I have a full handover package: the reverse engineering of where the font/text assets live, the codepoint→glyph-cell map, the character-width-table location (window.bin + the exe on the 2013 build), the FFNx external-DDS injection path, the SST source font, a working Python toolchain (arabic-reshaper + python-bidi pipeline), and a test .iro. So this is a focused implementation + tuning + verification job, not discovery. What I need delivered (the outcome): an installable 7th Heaven .iro where SST Arabic renders correctly in menus and dialogue: - Correct Arabic shaping (letters joined: isolated/initial/medial/final), - Correct right-to-left order (baked offline, since the engine does none), - Correct letter spacing/metrics so glyphs connect cleanly — no gaps, no dangling tails (this is the main remaining challenge, and it needs iterative in-game testing), - Sharp, clean rendering. ⚠️ Hard requirements — read before applying: - You must currently have a working Windows + Steam + Final Fantasy VII (2013) + 7th Heaven environment where you can launch the game, test changes, and capture in-game screenshots/video. This is the single most important requirement and the one most applicants fail. - In-game verification is the only acceptance. I will not accept computed/"should work" output, offline previews, or simulations. The deliverable is proven with in-game screenshots/video. - You do not need to read Arabic (I handle final Arabic-correctness QA), but you must handle the rendering, shaping pipeline, and width tuning. Skills that matter: - Game reverse engineering (Ghidra, x64dbg, Cheat Engine, hex editors) - Font hacking / variable-width-font (VWF) work: glyph-slot replacement, font textures, character-width tables, format integrity - Arabic reshaping + BiDi for engines with no shaper (presentation-form baking + visual reordering) - Python; texture formats (DDS); ideally FF7 / 7th Heaven / FFNx familiarity - Fan-translation / ROM-hacking background is ideal Terms: Fixed-price, milestone-based, released only on a confirmed-working in-game screenshot/video of «مالس» rendering connected, RTL, and sharp. As an early checkpoint, I'll ask for an in-game screenshot of a few Arabic glyphs rendering within the first day or two of starting, to confirm your pipeline is live before you go deep. Please do NOT apply if: you're a general web/app/full-stack/AI developer with no game-RE or font-hacking experience; you'd need to "start with discovery" (it's done); you can't run and screenshot the actual game; or your proposal doesn't answer the screening questions below.
