Engineering Prototype Design for Modular Workstation

CAD Designer Needed – DGX Office Butler Paddle Shelf System Project Overview DGX International LLC is developing the DGX Office Butler, a modular workstation support system utilizing adjustable paddle shelves mounted to a vertical support post. We are seeking an experienced CAD designer with fabrication and mechanical design experience to convert our attached dimensioned renderings into production-ready CAD drawings and fabrication files. Project Scope Create CAD models and fabrication drawings for two paddle shelf sizes: Small Paddle Shelf • 12" wide x 18" long Large Paddle / Printer Shelf • 14" wide x 20" long Both shelves utilize the same basic design concept and mounting method. Mounting System • Shelves mount to a 1.5" outside diameter vertical support post • Each shelf is positioned between two clamp collars mounted on the post • Paddle shelf and neck are fabricated as a single piece • The shelf must remain rigid under load and resist twisting, bending, and excessive deflection Design Loads • Expected working load: 30 pounds • Minimum design load: 60 pounds The most critical design area is the connection between the support post and the paddle shelf. The objective is to maximize strength and rigidity while maintaining a clean appearance and economical manufacturing process. Material Evaluation Requested Our preliminary assumption is aluminum plate approximately 1/4-inch thick. We request your recommendations regarding: • Aluminum alloy selection • Material thickness • Neck geometry • Radius dimensions • Manufacturability • Any modifications necessary to achieve the design load requirements Safety Requirements • All exposed edges should be rounded, eased, or radiused to eliminate sharp edges • The shelves should be designed to minimize the possibility of cuts during normal handling and use • We anticipate adding a protective perimeter edge treatment consisting of plastic, vinyl, rubber, or similar material • Please provide recommendations regarding suitable edge protection materials and any design considerations necessary to accommodate them Manufacturing Requirements • Design must be suitable for laser cutting and production manufacturing • Smooth radiused transitions are preferred • Design should be practical and economical to manufacture Deliverables Required • STEP file (.STEP) • Native CAD file • PDF dimensioned fabrication drawing • Written recommendations regarding: Material selection Thickness Structural considerations Manufacturability Edge protection options Please Provide • Fixed-price quotation • Estimated completion time • Brief summary of relevant experience Additional Opportunity This is the first component of the DGX Office Butler product line.
