We are looking for an experienced English-to-French translator to help localize a software application used by security companies. We have extracted approximately 3,000 English words, phrases, labels, instructions, and application terms into a spreadsheet. The selected freelancer will review each entry and enter the appropriate French translation into the corresponding spreadsheet column. This is not simply a word-for-word translation project. Many of the entries are software interface terms that appear in menus, buttons, notifications, reports, scheduling tools, and operational workflows. The translator must consider how each term is used and provide language that sounds clear and natural to a French-speaking software user. Responsibilities --Translate approximately 3,000 English words, phrases, and software terms into French. --Enter each translation into the supplied spreadsheet without changing its structure. --Use terminology that is clear, natural, and appropriate for a business software application. --Maintain consistency when the same concepts appear throughout the platform. --Review surrounding terms and available context before selecting a translation. --Identify entries that are ambiguous or require additional context. --Flag terms that may need different translations depending on where they appear. --Proofread all translations before submitting the completed spreadsheet. Qualifications --Native or near-native French proficiency. --Strong written English proficiency. --Previous translation, localization, or software-related experience. --Excellent understanding of French grammar, terminology, and natural phrasing. --Ability to distinguish between literal translation and contextually correct localization. --Strong attention to detail and comfort working in spreadsheets. --Experience translating SaaS platforms, mobile applications, workforce software, scheduling software, or security-related content is preferred. Applicants located in any country may apply, but you should be highly familiar with the French used by business software users. Please identify the primary French market or regional variation you normally translate for. Project Details --Source language: English --Target language: French --Project size: Approximately 3,000 words and terms --Working format: Spreadsheet --Payment structure: Hourly Please include the following in your proposal: --Your experience translating or localizing software applications. --Whether French is your native language. --The French market or regional variation you normally translate for. --Your hourly rate. --Your estimated number of hours for approximately 3,000 software terms. --A brief explanation of how you handle an English software term when its meaning is unclear without additional context. Please begin your proposal with the words “French Localization” so we know you have read the entire description.
