English / Reading Materials Reviewer and Editor

This is a project-based role with potential for long-term employment. We are looking for a detail-oriented reviewer with strong English and reading experience to review educational reading materials for clarity, accuracy, grade-level appropriateness, and overall quality. This role goes beyond basic proofreading. The reviewer should be able to look carefully at passages, questions, answer choices, and explanations to make sure the materials are clear, polished, and appropriate for students. Responsibilities - Review reading materials for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, and consistency. - Check that passages are clear, natural, well-organized, and appropriate for the intended grade level. - Review questions to make sure they are clear, fair, and answerable based on the passage. - Check answer choices to make sure the correct answer is accurate and the incorrect options are reasonable. - Review answer keys and explanations for accuracy and consistency. - Identify unclear wording, awkward sentences, weak answer choices, incorrect answers, or confusing instructions. - Check formatting details such as question numbers, passage references, answer labels, and page consistency. - Provide clear, organized feedback with the location of each issue and a suggested correction. - Review revised materials when needed to confirm that corrections were made properly. Required Skills - Strong command of English grammar, reading comprehension, and written communication. - Experience with English, reading, tutoring, teaching, editing, proofreading, or educational materials. - Strong attention to detail. - Ability to recognize unclear wording, awkward phrasing, and grade-level mismatches. - Ability to review reading passages and related questions carefully. - Ability to give clear, practical feedback. - Comfortable working with longer documents and reviewing materials in an organized way. Preferred Experience - Experience with teaching, tutoring, proofreading, editing, curriculum review, or educational publishing. - Experience reviewing reading passages, worksheets, workbooks, or student learning materials. - Experience writing or reviewing short answer explanations. Ideal Candidate - The ideal candidate is careful, reliable, and thoughtful. - They can notice small errors, but they can also see bigger issues, such as whether a passage makes sense, whether a question is fair, whether an answer explanation is clear, and whether the material feels polished and student-ready. Deliverables For each project, the reviewer will provide an organized review report listing any errors, concerns, or suggested changes, after confirmation these changes will be implemented in the final document. Feedback should be specific, clear, and easy to apply.
