3D Environment Artist Needed for Unity Projects
Worldwide
I am developing a playable vertical slice for a narrative puzzle game in Unity. I am looking for a 3D Environment Artist / Prop Artist to create game-ready modular assets for an old, mysterious house. This first contract is a paid test. If the collaboration goes well, I may create a larger follow-up contract for the full modular house kit and several narrative props. Project style: The visual target is a stylized semi-realistic first-person game with painterly textures, readable shapes, strong atmosphere and moody lighting. The comic-book / painterly influence is important because the main character is an artist who draws a comic book throughout the game. The 3D world should subtly support this idea while staying readable, atmospheric and game-ready. The house should feel mysterious, narrative and slightly stylized, but still grounded and usable in a real-time Unity project. I am not looking for a childish cartoon style, and I am not looking for full photorealism either. The goal is a polished stylized look suitable for a commercial indie game. I will provide a moodboard as reference for the art direction, which is inspired by screenshots from several existing games and their respective studios: Blue Prince by Dogubomb / Raw Fury, RECUR by kaleidoscube / Astra Logical, The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series / Definitive Series by Telltale / Skybound, and Cairn by The Game Bakers. The goal is not to copy any specific game, but to communicate the intended visual direction: stylized 3D environments, painterly textures, readable shapes, strong mood lighting, comic-book influence, and a mysterious narrative atmosphere. I can explain what each reference is used for during the discussion. Test task: * Create one small modular room usable in Unity * Include wall, floor, ceiling and door modules * Include one important narrative prop, to be discussed and clearly defined before starting the test task * Assets should be modular and easy to assemble * Real-world scale in meters * FBX or Blend files * Textures included Environment expectations: * Old house / attic / interior spaces * Modular room pieces * Stylized but believable materials * Strong atmosphere * Optimized for real-time use in Unity * Readable gameplay spaces for a first-person game Important: This is for a commercial game project. I need commercial usage rights for the game, trailer, Steam page, Kickstarter page, social media, press kit, publisher pitch and funding applications. Please include in your proposal: 1. Portfolio with game-ready 3D environments or props 2. Examples of modular assets if available 3. Software used 4. Estimated timeline for the test If you feel confident creating this kind of stylized/painterly 3D environment art, please send your portfolio and briefly explain how you would approach the test task. I can provide more details, references and gameplay context to candidates whose portfolio matches the direction. The displayed budget is for the paid test only, not for the full project.
