Experienced Biology Podcast Trailer Editor
Worldwide
We're a fast-growing science YouTube podcast covering frontier biology, consciousness, neuroscience, and psychedelics. You can see the channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@thegiantsshoulder We're looking for a talented trailer editor to own our teasers/trailers — the cuts (anywhere from 60 seconds up to 2:30) that hook viewers and drive the click. This isn't a from-scratch role. We hand you a tight selects sheet / A-cut (the strongest moments already chosen and sequenced), plus the full episode footage. Your job is to turn that into a punchy, high-retention trailer: pacing, music, sound design, captions, and motion graphics that make a smart audience stop scrolling. Our style — and where you come in We have a distinct visual identity: a papery chalkboard aesthetic with heavy motion graphics and animation woven throughout. We need an editor who can, at the very least, faithfully replicate that style — and ideally push it further and improve on it. Please watch at least 5 of our trailers before applying so you know exactly what you'd be stepping into and can confirm you're capable of producing work at that level. What you'll do - Cut trailers (60s–2:30) from a provided script/selects and raw interview footage - Build momentum: strong cold-open hook, rhythmic pacing, clean audio - Add professional typography captions/subtitles and tasteful lower-thirds or text emphasis - Produce the motion graphics and animation that define our look — in our papery chalkboard style — and elevate it where you can - Hit a fast, reliable turnaround You're a great fit if you have - A reel of trailers, teasers, or sizzle cuts — ideally for talking-head, interview, or podcast content - Strong command of Adobe Premiere Pro — After Effects is a must for this role - A real instinct for pacing, music selection, and where a cut should breathe vs. snap - Experience editing for YouTube specifically (you understand retention and the first 5 seconds) - Excellent English comprehension — you can follow nuanced scientific dialogue and pull the right beats - A genuine interest in and knowledge of science is a huge plus — this content rewards an editor who actually gets the ideas To apply - Confirm you've watched at least 5 of our trailers - Share 2–3 links to trailers or teasers you've personally edited (tell us exactly what you did on each) - Tell us how you'd improve our trailers — be specific. What works, what you'd change, and what you'd bring to the style - Start your reply with the word "synapse" so we know you read this - One line on your typical turnaround time for a single trailer Details Volume: 1–2 trailers per week, ongoing Rate: $150-$200 per very high quality trailer. Rates increase as the channel grows; we want a long-term collaborator who grows with us Start: Immediately
