Expert Chemistry 2 Tutor & Executive Function Coach
Worldwide
We are seeking... a highly empathetic, creative, and experienced online Chemistry tutor for my 19-year-old daughter. She is a Pre-Med student at Fordham University currently taking a rigorous Summer Chemistry 2 course at Brandeis University. She is exceptionally bright (A+ in English/History, former recruited athlete) but has an ADHD-indicative cognitive profile. She tests in the 85th percentile for high-level strategic planning, but the 15th percentile for spatial working memory. Standard textbook reading and abstract formulas cause her working memory to overload, leading to test anxiety. However, she is a "Narrative Encoder"—when chemistry is framed as a real-world medical problem, a sports analogy, or a story with "characters," she absorbs it instantly. To be considered for this role, you must... be able to translate complex scientific jargon into "plain English." We are NOT looking for a traditional tutor to just read slides to her or drill her with practice tests. You must be an academic coach who can adapt the material to a narrative-driven brain, utilizing "teach-back" methods where you ask her to explain the concepts back to you out loud as a story. What we are looking for: Deep Expertise: College-Level General Chemistry II (experience with Brandeis or Fordham curriculums is a massive plus). Specialized Experience: Proven experience tutoring students with ADHD, working memory deficits, or test anxiety. Executive Function Coaching: Ability to help her break down a massive, overwhelming syllabus into frictionless, bite-sized tasks so she doesn't panic. Empathy: A warm, highly patient personality. She deals with "blank page paralysis," so we need a safe, low-pressure sounding board where making mistakes is completely okay. Long-Term Potential: If this summer session is successful, there is a strong opportunity to extend this into a long-term academic coaching role for her Fall/Spring science classes at Fordham. Application Requirement: To ensure you have the unique blend of scientific expertise and creative storytelling required, please apply with a brief note on how you would teach a difficult Chemistry 2 concept using a real-world story or analogy (e.g., using a hockey collision to explain chemical kinetics). Applications without this example will not be considered.
