Summary

I run a tax advisory firm in Austin, Texas focused on S corporation owners, real estate investors, and multi-entity clients. Junior preparers draft the returns. I need a second reviewer who can perform true technical review at the senior manager or partner level, not a detail tick-and-tie. This role exists because turnaround matters. Review capacity, not preparation, is the bottleneck I am solving. If you cannot commit to returning review notes within 48 to 72 hours of assignment during peak periods, this is not the right engagement for you. What you will review Form 1040 returns with Schedule C and Schedule E activity, K-1 flowthrough, and multistate filings Form 1120-S returns with shareholder basis statements (Form 7203), reasonable compensation positions, and Accumulated Adjustments Account (AAA) tracking Form 1065 returns with special allocations and partner capital accounts Recurring issue areas: passive activity classification under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 469 including short-term rental treatment, cost segregation and Section 481(a) catch-up adjustments, accountable plans and owner fringe benefits, state nexus and apportionment How the engagement works I assign returns on demand as preparers complete them. There are no guaranteed minimum hours. Volume concentrates around the March, April, September, and October deadlines, with an estimated 5-10 returns per month in season. You review the return against the workpapers, verify positions, elections, carryovers, and basis, and deliver written review notes through TaxDome. Notes must be specific enough that a junior preparer can correct the file and learn from it. You are the second set of eyes. I perform final review and sign the return. Requirements Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential Roughly ten years of hands-on tax experience with direct review responsibility for other preparers' work. I will consider manager-level reviewers with seven or more years whose experience concentrates in flowthrough entities and real estate. Technical knowledge at the senior manager or partner level is the standard. Where you built it matters less than whether you have it. National firm, regional firm, solo practice, industry, and family office backgrounds all qualify. Demonstrated depth in flowthrough taxation, passive activity rules, and multistate individual and entity filings Located in the United States. Client return information does not leave the United States and I will not obtain IRC Section 7216 offshore disclosure consents, so applicants outside the United States cannot be considered. Signed confidentiality and independent contractor agreements before any client file is shared. Terms Independent contractor, part time, on demand. Hourly rate or a per-return flat fee schedule once we calibrate on the first several files. This is intended as an ongoing relationship. I am building review bench strength, not filling a one-time project. How to apply Start the first line of your proposal with your credential, license state, and years of review experience. Proposals that skip this line will not be read. Then answer these four questions: Describe the most technically complex return you reviewed in the last twelve months and the most significant issue you caught on review. What is your realistic weekly capacity from February 1 through April 15? What tax preparation software have you worked in as a reviewer? I use ProSeries Professional. State your hourly rate, or your flat fee to review a moderately complex Form 1120-S with three states and two shareholders.
