Fast CAD Fix: Add Bayonet Lock & Piston Retraction to SolidWorks Assembly

Posted 2 days ago

Summary

I have a native SolidWorks master assembly (Pack and Go) for a simple, handheld mechanical press used to compress dry materials/spices into solid disks. We have physical 3D prints in hand, but the current CAD files are non-functional because the mechanics lack a rotation lock and proper piston retraction. I need a fast, expert SolidWorks designer to execute a quick mechanical "surgical" fix on the existing files so we can push to a working production prototype. This is a very straightforward task for a skilled engineer. The Multi-Part Deliverables: Cap Anti-Rotation (Bayonet Lock): The top cap currently spins against the main body under torque. You must model a robust, simple bayonet-style quarter-turn twist lock between the cap sleeve and the main tube. When turned, it must lock solid so the drive screw can actually plunge. Proper MJF-Specific Clearances: All moving, sliding, and locking features must maintain a strict clearance of 0.25mm. The designer must have direct experience designing for HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) in PA12, ensuring that mating threads and the bayonet lock do not bind, warp, or permanently fuse due to the thermal properties and powder-trapping nature of the MJF process. Total Assembly Scope & Stroke Verification: This is a multi-part mechanical assembly. Any modifications to the top cap, screw tip, or piston will affect the overall stroke length. You must audit the entire 5-part stack-up in SolidWorks to verify that the piston still achieves its full required travel down the chamber to compress the 0.5g dry material sample, without bottoming out the mechanical threads. Deliver a 3D section view showing the piston at both maximum extension and maximum retraction. What I Will Provide: Native SolidWorks Master Assembly (Pack and Go) files. Clear, direct text instructions of the mechanical goals. Must be delivered within 24–48 hours of hire. Please answer the screening questions to be considered.
