France-Based Native French Speaker for Occasional Phone Calls and Translation Support

Hello! I am looking for a reliable native French speaker based in France to provide occasional French-English translation and telephone assistance relating primarily to a property in the south of France. The work will be ad hoc and is expected to continue intermittently over the next one to two years. I visit France several times per year, and assistance will generally be required for a small number of tasks during or before each visit. Typical tasks may include: - Calling electricians, builders, plumbers and other tradespeople to explain requirements, obtain quotations and arrange appointments. - Contacting electricity, water and other service providers. - Relaying questions and information between me and French-speaking contractors. - Providing occasional live interpretation by ordinary telephone during an appointment when I am present at the property. - Occasionally translating short emails, messages, quotations, invoices or appointment information. This is not a complex document-translation role. The main requirement is the ability to communicate clearly and confidently by telephone in French, understand the response accurately and provide me with the key outcome in English. The freelancer would normally relay the information to me before confirming prices, appointments or other commitments. Where necessary, this may involve calling the service provider back once I have made a decision. Immediate first task The first task will involve contacting two electricians in the south of France regarding an inspection at a residential property. The freelancer will need to explain the general requirement, ask about availability on specified dates, and obtain an estimated cost or hourly rate. Only a concise summary of each electrician’s response is required. Requirements - Native French speaker with fluent written and spoken English. - Currently resident in France. - Ideally has a French telephone number. - Comfortable speaking with tradespeople, utility companies and service providers. - Reliable and able to communicate information accurately. - Previous experience with property, construction, utilities, administrative assistance or telephone interpretation would be useful. - Able to provide occasional live telephone interpretation at times arranged in advance. The workload will be occasional rather than continuous. Reasonable advance notice will normally be given, particularly where live interpretation is required for a scheduled appointment. This will be an hourly Upwork contract. Please include your location in France, hourly rate, relevant experience and general availability in your proposal. Ordinary domestic telephone costs should be included in the hourly rate. Any unusual or significant telephone charges may be billed separately. Thanks!
