Freelance Assistant Video Editor — Project-Based

Overview Intrigue Studios is a New York-based video production company working with mid-size and national brands. Our work spans TV and social commercials, documentary-style brand films, testimonial videos, and ongoing content systems for brands running high-volume social and digital programs. We're looking for a reliable assistant editor for project-based freelance work — a few small projects per month to start. This isn't a one-time gig. The expectation is an ongoing freelance relationship that grows into part-time and eventually full-time as volume increases. We're building toward that now. The Role -You'll be working directly under creative direction with clear guidelines on every task. This is not a creative lead role — it's a support role where precision, organization, and speed matter more than independent editorial judgment. -Every assignment comes with specific direction: timecode sheets, shot selections, rough cut guidelines, or organizational specs. Your job is to execute them accurately and turn them around cleanly. -An assistant who proves themselves reliable and sharp will have a clear path forward here. What You'll Be Doing -Footage Organization — Ingesting, labeling, and organizing raw footage according to project structure and naming conventions we provide -Sync Work — Dual-system audio sync and multicam alignment -Marker Passes — Reviewing interview stringouts and flagging selects based on timecode sheets and creative direction -Rough Cut Assembly — Building initial cuts from shot lists or timecode guidelines — structured assembly following explicit direction, not creative free-cutting -Timeline Prep — Setting up sequences, importing assets, and preparing projects so a senior editor or creative director can step in cleanly -Basic Deliverable Work — Some finishing on straightforward social cuts and content system deliverables where the edit is well-defined Required Skills -Adobe Premiere Pro — fast and organized inside a project, not just functional -Comfortable working from timecode sheets, shot lists, and written direction -High attention to detail — mislabeled bins and sloppy project structure are not acceptable -Reliable turnaround and clear communication Desired Skills (Move You to the Top) -Experience with Adobe Team Projects and Dropbox-based workflows — Our projects run through Adobe Team Projects with all assets stored and synced via Dropbox. You'll need to sync the project folder to your local machine, accept the team project invite, and relink assets on your end before work begins. If you've never done this, be upfront about it in your proposal. -Experience with dual-system audio sync and multicam workflows -Basic color and audio cleanup — not advanced, just leaving a sequence in clean shape What to Include in Your Proposal *Generic proposals won't get a response. Tell me: -What assistant editing work you've done and in what production contexts -How you handle footage organization — what your system looks like -Your experience, if any, with stringouts, selects, and timecode-based direction -Your typical turnaround for 8-10 hours of project work. Your hourly rate and weekly availability Who This Is For -Someone who takes direction well and executes it precisely -An organized, detail-oriented editor who takes project structure seriously -Someone who understands the value of being reliable on small tasks — because that's what earns bigger ones -An assistant who wants to grow inside a professional production environment, not just fill a gap The projects are small to start. The relationship isn't.
