Freelance Editor - Editorial Column (NDA Required)
Worldwide
The Role I'm a contributor to a major national business publication, covering AI ROI for small and mid-sized businesses, and I'm looking for a freelance editor to be the last set of eyes before my articles publish. My team handles the writing. You'll handle making sure every piece is factually accurate, structurally sound, and ready to publish. This is a recurring monthly engagement, not a one-off gig. Volume is around 20 articles per month. Note: The specific publication is disclosed after a signed NDA, before any assignments begin. This is standard for contributor-program work and protects both of us. About Me I write on AI return on investment for business owners and operators — grounded in proprietary frameworks and documented client results, not hype. My column runs regularly, which means this role runs regularly too. I need someone who can keep pace without the work piling up. What Success Looks Like Six months in, I'm not thinking about this part of the process anymore. Articles come to you, you catch what needs catching, and what goes back to me is clean, accurate, and publication-ready — without me having to double-check your double-check. What You'll Do Fact-check every claim, statistic, and attribution before publication Verify sourcing and flag anything that can't be substantiated Edit for structure, flow, and alignment with editorial conventions (AP style) Catch journalistic errors — misattribution, unclear sourcing, inconsistent claims, factual drift Turn around edits reliably and on schedule, month after month Flag anything that reads as promotional rather than editorial — my publication doesn't allow it, and it can jeopardize my standing as a contributor What I'm Looking For Required: Journalism background — degree, newsroom experience, or equivalent demonstrated experience Real fact-checking and copyediting experience, not just proofreading Strong command of AP style Comfortable with business, finance, or tech subject matter Dependable turnaround — this role doesn't work if edits are unpredictable Willingness to sign an NDA before the publication name and assignments are shared Preferred: Experience editing for a columnist, or ghostwritten byline Familiarity with major business or finance publication editorial standards Background editing AI, tech, or finance content specifically To Apply Send 2–3 samples of fact-checking or copyediting work — business, finance, or tech content preferred — along with your typical turnaround time on an 800–1,500 word article. Let me know your availability for a recurring monthly volume of around 20 articles. An NDA will go out before any further details are shared.
