Freelance Mechanical Engineer / Product Designer (Sheet Metal & CAD)

To discuss further project details, you will be required to sign an NDA. BBQ-AID is looking for a product engineer to bring our newest innovation to life. We have a functional prototype that needs a few adjustment. The deliverable is a file stack that is manufacturing ready in our factories. Project Overview: I have a functional prototype and a clear design vision for a novel Grilltop Smoker Box. I need an experienced product designer or mechanical engineer to convert my prototype, sketches, and dimensions into manufacturing-ready CAD files. What You Will Do: Translate a physical prototype and design sketches into a fully realized 3D CAD model. Optimize the design for manufacturing (DFM), specifically focusing on sheet metal fabrication (laser cutting, bending, and welding). Ensure proper tolerancing for thermal expansion (high-heat environments). Deliver clean 3D source files and 2D technical drawings for manufacturing quotes. Required Expertise: Proven experience designing products for sheet metal fabrication. High proficiency in SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Fusion 360. Basic understanding of thermal dynamics, ventilation, and material selection (specifically food-safe stainless steel). Strong portfolio showing physical consumer products brought to market. Deliverables Needed: 3D CAD Files: STEP or IGES formats (standard for manufacturing). 2D Technical Drawings: DXF or DWG files for flat-pattern sheet metal cutting, complete with dimensions, tolerances, and material callouts. Original native CAD project files.
