Freelance Technical SEO Specialist – Shopify Ecommerce (Client-Facing, Ongoing Potential)

Summary

We're a Canadian paid search agency looking for a freelance SEO specialist to lead a new engagement for one of our ecommerce clients, a home goods and wellness retailer on Shopify. This is a hands-on, client-facing role. You'll run the SEO program directly, and you'll also join client calls to walk through findings and recommendations, since our team's expertise is in paid search rather than organic. The client has a detailed scope and clear expectations, so this role suits someone who can explain technical findings in plain language, back up recommendations with reasoning, and be clear about what is and isn't included in a given deliverable. Scope & Deliverables (first 3 months) Month 1 — Audit & Mapping Full technical SEO audit: crawl/indexation, sitemap and canonicals, Core Web Vitals, schema markup, Shopify-specific issues GA4 and Search Console validation Competitor visibility review Review of current paid search landing pages, with overlap and alignment recommendations between paid and organic Commercial keyword mapping framework Prioritized SEO roadmap, including quick-win fixes Month 2 — Priority Page Optimization On-page optimization for the homepage, category/collection pages, brand pages, and other priority commercial pages: metadata, internal linking, search intent alignment Content strategy recommendations only — identifying content gaps (comparison, category-support, mid-funnel) and prioritization guidance. Writing or producing content is not part of this role. Google Business Profile and local relevance review, with entity and trust signal recommendations Month 3 — Visibility Refinement & Reporting CTR, search snippet, and structured data refinement recommendations AI-search and entity visibility review Additional keyword opportunities and sequencing recommendations for future months Monthly reporting: organic visibility, ranking movement, indexed page growth, technical issue tracking, SEO/PPC alignment, organic-assisted conversions Out of Scope Writing or producing content (blog posts, landing page copy, etc.) — this role provides strategy and recommendations, not copy Website development or code changes beyond standard on-page SEO elements (metadata, schema, internal links) What We're Looking For Required: Proven experience with technical SEO audits and on-page optimization for ecommerce, ideally Shopify Comfortable with GA4, Search Console, and schema markup Strong communicator who can explain technical recommendations clearly to a client without an SEO background Comfortable working within a defined scope and being clear about what's included and what isn't Clear written communication for monthly reports Nice to have: Experience in home goods, wellness, or DTC retail Familiarity with AI search / generative engine optimization (GEO) Experience working alongside a paid search team This starts as a 3-month scoped engagement with good potential to continue if it's a fit on both sides. Also, please provide your hourly/desire monthly rate for this project as well.
