Summary

Freelance AI Training Specialist – Smart Home & ISP Networking (Subject Matter Expert) Location: Remote | Contract Type: Hourly / Freelance Role: 100% Non-Voice AI Data & Verification Quality Gate: Strict AI Usage PolicyAI may be used for search and reference-finding only, never to generate content. All submissions must reflect your own verified experience and are audited. Every technical claim needs first-hand verification or a checkable source link. This is our main quality gate. We are seeking a highly technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to help train and validate an advanced AI and visual diagnostic agent designed to troubleshoot complex connected home issues. This is a 100% offline, non-customer-facing role. You will not take live support calls or chats. Instead, you will work interactively with our internal AI verification tools to audit, correct, and certify multi-branch diagnostic decision trees. You will simulate realistic troubleshooting scenarios, trace network-based logic paths, and ensure the AI recommends accurate, safe, and logically sound steps. Key Responsibilities Knowledge Graph Verification: Trace, test, and certify AI-generated troubleshooting flow branches step-by-step using our internal verification tool. You will identify missing logic, improper branching, or erroneous technical advice. Edge-Case Simulation: Create and execute realistic, multi-turn troubleshooting simulations (e.g., diagnosing a 2.4 GHz IoT device dropped off a dual-band mesh network or identifying an absent C-wire on a smart thermostat). "Golden Source" Authoring & Retrieval: Perform deep technical research using official OEM documentation, user manuals, and brand specifications to validate diagnostic claims and append verified reference links. Safety Guardrails: Ensure AI diagnostic paths adhere strictly to safety boundaries (e.g., safely identifying HVAC wiring without directing users to handle live high-voltage circuits). Quality Scoring: Grade AI troubleshooting paths on technical accuracy, logic, and visual clarity, providing detailed feedback to guide the model's continuous learning. Technical Scope & Priorities You must demonstrate strong, hands-on familiarity across one or more of the following prioritized domains: Connectivity & ISP Backbone (Priority 1): Carrier gateways (e.g., Xfinity XB, AT&T BGW, Verizon 5G), band steering (2.4GHz vs 5GHz), WPA2/WPA3 IoT onboarding conflicts, bridge/IP-passthrough mode, double NAT, and mesh backhaul. Cameras & Video Doorbells: Ring, Google Nest, Blink, Arlo; power compatibility, exterior Wi-Fi signal loss, and 2.4 GHz pairing. Smart Thermostats: Google Nest, ecobee, Honeywell Home; HVAC wiring identification (R, C, W, Y, G), C-wire power adapters, and heat pump vs. conventional systems. TV, Streaming & Entertainment: Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Smart TVs; HDMI-CEC/eARC selection, casting, and buffering vs. ISP bandwidth bottlenecks. Hubs & Voice Assistants: Amazon Echo, Google Nest, Apple HomePod; Matter pairing, Thread border routers, and Zigbee/Z-Wave vs. Wi-Fi protocols. Smart Locks & Peripherals: Deadbolt alignment, hub pairing, wireless printer setup, and smart lighting neutral wire identification. Qualifications & Requirements Technical Depth: 3+ years of Tier 3, L2/L3 support, or SME experience in IT networking, ISP support, or smart-home field engineering. (Note: Standard Tier 1 call center script-reading experience will not qualify for this role). Network/IoT Certifications: CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or similar credentials are a massive plus. Methodical Troubleshooting: Ability to dynamically trace root causes through structured decision trees and spot logical fallacies in AI-generated diagnostic flows. Communication: Exceptional written English skills, capable of explaining intricate hardware quirks clearly.
