Frontend Developer — Next.js E-Commerce
Worldwide
Remote · Contract · Defined scope with possible extension We're building a custom storefront on top of our own warehouse management system, and we're migrating it to full retail checkout. We need a frontend developer to own that migration end to end. The storefront is a Next.js app that reads from our internal WMS API — real inventory, real fulfillment, our own data contracts. You'll be building checkout, payments, and customer-facing flows against that backend. What you'll be doing • Building out retail checkout: cart, guest checkout, address handling, order confirmation • Integrating a payment gateway (Authorize.net) and handling failure cases properly • Wiring customer-facing UI to our internal REST API — inventory, products, orders • Implementing verification steps required for our product category (details in the interview) • Making all of it work well on mobile Tech stack • Next.js (App Router) — server/client components, route handlers, data fetching and caching • React — hooks, state management, component composition • TypeScript — strict mode; the entire codebase is typed • Tailwind CSS — utility-first, no separate CSS framework • REST API integration — custom backend, not a third-party SDK • pnpm workspaces — TypeScript monorepo • Git — branch per concern, conventional commits • Payment gateway integration — Authorize.net (Stripe/Braintree experience transfers) • Vite and Node.js familiarity for local tooling Required experience • Shipped production Next.js and TypeScript — real traffic, not tutorials • Integrated a checkout with a real payment provider end to end • Consumed a custom REST API — comfortable reading an API contract, handling loading/error/empty states, and dealing with responses that don't match the docs • Tailwind CSS in production • Responsive layouts that hold up on phones Nice to have • E-commerce with real inventory constraints — out-of-stock races, backorders, stale stock numbers • Age verification or other regulated-checkout requirements • Monorepo experience • Accessibility (WCAG basics) and Core Web Vitals / performance work • Familiarity with queue-backed backends (jobs, webhooks, eventual consistency
