Summary

Full Stack Unity Developer, VR Training (Meta Quest) Type: Contract (remote) Location: Fully remote Experience: Open range (mid through senior); scope and rate flex with experience Engagement: [e.g., 3 to 6 month initial term, ~30 to 40 hrs/week, with extension potential] About the role We build immersive VR training experiences that help people learn faster and retain more. We are looking for a full stack Unity developer with hands-on Meta Quest experience to own features end to end, from the headset all the way back to the services and data that power them. You will build training simulations that run smoothly on standalone hardware, wire them into backend systems, and help us capture the learning data that proves our programs work. This is a contract role with a clear scope and real ownership. We care about shipped, polished VR builds and clean, maintainable code more than hours logged. What you will do Design and build interactive VR training modules in Unity (C#) targeting Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro. Implement natural interactions using the Meta XR SDK and Presence Platform: hand tracking, controllers, passthrough, and mixed reality where it fits the training goal. Optimize for standalone performance: hold frame rate, manage draw calls and memory, and profile on-device rather than only in the editor. Build and integrate backend services (APIs, auth, data storage) that support content delivery, user progress, and analytics. Instrument learning analytics and connect experiences to LMS or reporting systems using standards such as xAPI or SCORM. Collaborate with instructional designers and subject matter experts to turn training objectives into working interactions. Handle build pipelines, releases, and deployment to Meta's distribution channels or managed device fleets. What we are looking for Proven Unity and C# experience, with at least one shipped VR project on Meta Quest hardware. Working knowledge of the Meta XR SDK (formerly Oculus Integration), OpenXR, and the XR Interaction Toolkit. Full stack ability: comfortable building backend services and APIs (for example Node.js, .NET, or Python) and working with a database and a cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP). Solid grasp of VR performance optimization and the constraints of mobile-class standalone headsets. Experience with source control (Git) and collaborative development workflows. Clear written communication and the ability to work independently in a remote, async-friendly team. Nice to have Experience with learning standards (xAPI, SCORM) or LMS integration. Multiplayer or networked VR (Photon, Netcode for GameObjects, or similar). Mixed reality and passthrough experience with Meta Presence Platform. Background in training, simulation, education, or serious games. Familiarity with speech, AI-driven characters, or conversational agents inside VR. 3D asset pipeline comfort (Blender, optimization, shaders). Contract details Fully remote. You provide your own development machine; a Meta Quest headset for testing is [required / provided]. Compensation is [hourly / project-based] and negotiable based on experience and scope. Independent contractor engagement. You are responsible for your own taxes and equipment unless otherwise agreed. IP and work product assigned to the company under a standard contractor agreement. How to apply Send a short intro, your resume or portfolio, and links or builds of VR work you have shipped on Meta Quest to [contact email or application link]. A downloadable APK or a short capture reel is worth more than a long cover letter.
