Funny Video Project for Beginners
Only freelancers located in the U.S. may apply.U.S. located freelancers only
I’m a drama writer with a funny side. I have a lot of ideas for comedy skits that can live on TikTok and/or other social platforms of your choice. While I personally participate very little in TikTok, I would like to reach the BookTok community as well as other creative communities. Your social media can be in the beginning stages for this project. The main requirement is that you’re simply hilarious. I am open to price adjustments, but please keep in mind that this is intended to be a simple and short project. I hope you have fun with it! This project does not have an identity requirement- it’s about the quality of the work. We don’t need to use the name “Karen” in any of the posts- this is just the general personality. Although the main character of this project is a classic “Karen,” please apply if you have a similar take on a male version of a “Karen” or any other version! Feel free to put your own original spin on the idea 😎 “Karen” is our favorite nitpicking community member ready to mind your business and share what she just can’t stay quiet about, what she just doesn’t approve of, and why “she just has to give you her feedback on that.” The Artistic Karen: “Let me just give you my feedback on that.” The Artistic Karen is a character who admires art but struggles to approve of its content. She is a teacher with many different interests. Paintings on the walls, scenes written in novels and movies, and how lyrics grammatically fit together in music are all fair game. Even at artistic meetups and book clubs where feedback is required, encouraged, and welcome, she keeps finding herself compelled to nitpick. For the first scene, Karen is not happy with the front and back cover of a book she is reading. She rants to the author about how “the front and back cover obviously display the choices we make for our books that resemble the choices we make for our lives.” She does not like the title, the choice of colors, or that the author is not smiling in their profile picture. She reads one page and roasts the entire book Karen-style. To apply: 1. Think about some kind of “Karen” situation that makes you laugh before step 2! Tell me what it was 😂 2. How would you prefer to perform your best “Let me just give you my feedback on that” in a classic “Karen” voice for a short video that will be around 10 seconds in length? (There is no right or wrong answer) A: I would have the most fun just saying the line and following it up with a nod and a stare. B: I would have the most fun embellishing it improv style. 3. In three or more sentences, explain what kind of artwork your “Karen” would be most comfortable critiquing if this were to turn into more than one episode. If you could have Karen advocate to improve something in the realm of art that you are passionate about, what would it be? 4. Which kind of creator are you? (There is no right or wrong answer) A: Face and Voice: Little to no props or setup; I’m comfortable speaking into the camera. B: Lights, Camera, Action: Eager to show the story instead of tell the story; I like to set the stage and act out the whole scene. 5. Do others ever participate in your skits with you? (There is no right or wrong answer) A: Yes- My friends and family are supportive if I ask them for a funny look or response in my content. B: No- I am a solo act. If you answered “B,” would you ever want to do a “one-person” show where you act out more than one character? 6. Do you want to post the video on your own social media and then have me share it to mine, or do you prefer it stays only on mine? (There is no right or wrong answer). Explore how the next questions can help you get into character. Think about the many different forms of Karens there could be in different contexts; i.e. the competitive running Karen, the animal-advocate Karen, the amusement park Karen, the movie theater Karen, etc.) 7. What does Karen notice or have to say at a booth for club rush, and what club is the booth for? Please respond in 2-3 sentences. Examples of acceptable answers: “I’m not sure I can overlook that” and/or “Karen points out something that is out of place.” 8. Please name an environmental cause you care about (i.e. save the bees, ban plastics, etc.). What does Karen notice or have to say about you specifically when she is at an event for this cause? See the examples of acceptable answers above. 9. Think about a time that you wish someone had not shared their feedback with you. What was the feedback, and why was it demotivating? Do you wish they hadn’t shared it? Why or why not? What would Karen notice or have to say if she were defending you or agreeing with you in this situation? 10. How would you explain to someone why Karen “just has to give you her feedback on that”? 11. In 1-2 sentences, explain who your favorite past or present actor on Saturday Night Live is and why. If you do not watch SNL, research their Mother’s Day skits and tell me which one made you laugh. 12. Confirm you understand how to attribute me in the credits.
