Furniture CAD Engineer – Premium Lounge Chair (Production-Ready Development)

We are developing the flagship product for a new premium furniture brand and are seeking an experienced Furniture CAD Engineer to take a lounge chair from concept through to a production-ready prototype package. We are specifically seeking candidates with proven experience developing timber seating or furniture for manufacture — from concept refinement through to detailed documentation. This is not a concept design role. The design direction is established and we have draft renders & measurements. We are looking for a highly capable engineer/designer to bring the product to manufacturing reality. Project Overview The chair combines: Scandinavian design principles Solid Australian hardwood construction Full-grain leather suspension elements It is intended to become the flagship product of the brand, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, simplicity, and durability. We value quality and clarity, and have structured this as a staged project to ensure the right outcome and a strong working relationship. Project Structure (Fixed Fee: $600 USD, delivered in two stages) Stage 1 – CAD Development & Engineering ($300) This stage focuses on establishing a robust, manufacturable design foundation. Review and refine ergonomics and proportions Develop production-ready 3D CAD model Engineer timber joinery and structural details Develop leather suspension and attachment system Confirm suitability for prototype manufacture Consider efficient and repeatable manufacturing methods (CNC and/or workshop) Stage 2 – Manufacturing Package & Renders ($300) Produce manufacturing and component drawings Produce assembly drawings and detailed joinery Produce material specifications Deliver photorealistic renders for website and marketing use Design Intent & Requirements: Premium lounge chair Solid Australian hardwood frame Full-grain leather suspended seat and back Clean Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic No unnecessary or decorative detailing Suitable for occupants up to 120kg Design load target: 150kg Designed for durability and long-term use Final Deliverables: Native CAD files (please specify software) STEP export files Complete manufacturing drawing set Component and joinery detail drawings Assembly drawings Materials specification Photorealistic renders (marketing quality) What We’re Looking For: Demonstrated experience developing timber furniture or seating systems Strong understanding of joinery, structure, and manufacturability Ability to deliver clear, production-ready documentation High attention to detail and craftsmanship Proposals (Applications) to include: Examples of furniture projects you have personally developed Examples of production-ready CAD or manufacturing packages Your preferred CAD software A brief summary of your experience with timber furniture and seating design Future Opportunity: The successful candidate may be retained as our ongoing CAD development partner as the furniture collection expands.
