GIS Cartographer + Web Mapping Developer Needed for Local Map Website & Print Map POC
Worldwide
We are building a new local media and real estate marketing product and need an experienced GIS cartographer and web mapping developer to create a professional proof of concept for one town in a state as a proof of concept and we'll be expanding in the future. The project involves creating a branded local map system that can work for both: Print — magazine, mailer, local guide, sponsor packet Online — interactive website map that renders correctly on desktop and mobile This is not a Canva map, Google Maps screenshot, or basic graphic design project. We need a real GIS-backed map product using official/public GIS data sources where possible. The exact brand name and town will be shared with qualified candidates after initial review. Project Goal Create a polished local map and simple website proof of concept for one town. The final product should feel premium, local, useful, and sponsor-ready. It should be something a homeowner, local buyer, or business sponsor would actually want to use. This first project is for one town only, but the system should be repeatable later for other nearby towns. What We Need Built We need a complete proof of concept that includes: A branded print-ready local map A branded interactive website map A simple landing page to showcase the map Sponsor/business pins Local guide sections Lead capture Clean GIS files and documentation A repeatable workflow for future towns Map Layers The map should include relevant layers such as: Municipal boundary Major roads and key connectors Neighborhoods/subdivisions where available Parks Greenways/trails Schools Downtown/main district Shopping and dining areas Local landmarks New development or growth areas, if available Featured business/sponsor pins Local points of interest Branded labels and callouts We want this to look like a high-quality local guide or real estate magazine map, not a default government GIS map. Website Component We also want a simple website or landing page built around the map. The website should include: Homepage / landing page Embedded interactive map Sponsor/business pin layer Featured sponsor sections Local guide content blocks Basic lead capture form Mobile-friendly layout Basic SEO structure Ability to expand later into additional town pages We are open to the right technical approach. Possible options include: Webflow + embedded custom MapLibre/Mapbox map WordPress + embedded custom map Next.js + MapLibre Another stack if you can clearly explain why it is best We care more about the final product rendering correctly and being scalable than forcing a specific platform. Required Experience Please only apply if you have experience with several of the following: QGIS GIS data cleaning and organization Cartographic design Print map production Web map rendering GeoJSON Shapefiles GeoPackage CSV/KML GIS data Municipal/county/state open data Map projections and coordinate systems MapLibre, Mapbox, Leaflet, ArcGIS Online, or similar Vector tiles, MBTiles, PMTiles, or optimized web map data HTML/CSS/JavaScript Browser/device testing Source documentation and attribution Bonus experience: Real estate maps Local guide maps Neighborhood maps Tourism maps Sponsor-supported maps Print publications Deliverables For the proof of concept, we need the following: 1. Organized Project Folder 2. Clean GIS Layers 3. Branded GIS Map 4. Print-Ready Map Export A print-ready map export suitable for professional printing. The print map should not be a screenshot. It should be exported properly from a GIS/cartography workflow. 5. Interactive Web Map A working interactive web map that can be embedded or hosted on the website. 6. Simple Website / Landing Page A basic sponsor-ready landing page that includes: 7. Repeatable Template This is very important. We do not want a one-off map. We want a repeatable system that can later be used for other towns. Please include documentation explaining: Where the data came from How the layers were cleaned How the print map was exported How the web map was built How sponsor pins can be updated How this can be repeated for other towns
