GMSL2 Serializer to FAKRA Launch Optimization (KiCad + openEMS)
Worldwide
We are building a GMSL2 camera module and need to optimize the high-speed path from the serializer to the FAKRA connector. We would like help improving our layout to achieve -15dB return loss up to 6Ghz. We want to create two OpenEMS simulations, one of our current design and one with the proposed improvements. The simulation can be a subsection of our board cut out at a sensible boundary you define. Review the existing layout and identify the dominant discontinuities. Establish a KiCad → openEMS path and define the extraction boundary: how much of the board comes into the model, where the ports go, and how the cut is de-embedded. Our starting assumption is STEP export and the FreeCAD-OpenEMS-Export plugin to create the simulation and using Paraview to visualize the results, but we are open to your suggestions and we want your reasoning on the mesh and boundary conditions. Model 1 — baseline. The subsection as currently laid out, simulated to 6 GHz. Propose geometry changes: trace width and gap, pad size and plane voiding under the cap and PoC network, via-fence pitch, FAKRA anti-pad and shield grounding, PoC placement along the line, stackup changes if warranted. Model 2 — improved. The same subsection with your recommended changes applied, simulated identically so the two results are directly comparable. Deliverables: - Improved layout of the FAKRA section of the pcb. - Two runnable simulation setups, baseline and improved: scripts, geometry or model files, mesh configuration, and whatever else is needed to reproduce your results. - Touchstone files and result data from both runs. - Return loss and impedance plots for both, on shared axes, DC to 6 GHz. - A short written report on the results and how to interpret them. General comments and recommendations regarding the design.
