Grant Writer Needed for Youth Leadership & Mentoring Nonprofit

*About PBMAH The Positive Black Male Association of Houston (PBMAH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to developing future leaders through mentoring, leadership development, college readiness, career exposure, community service, and scholarship support. For more than two decades, PBMAH has served youth ages 6–18 by providing structured programming designed to build character, leadership skills, academic achievement, community engagement, and long-term success. We are currently seeking an experienced grant writer to support the preparation and submission of a foundation grant application aligned with youth development, leadership development, workforce readiness, and community impact initiatives. This engagement is intended to address an immediate funding opportunity but may lead to a long-term relationship with the right consultant. *What We Are Looking For We are looking for more than someone who can simply complete an application. We are seeking a consultant who can understand our mission, evaluate the funding opportunity, identify our strongest positioning, and develop a compelling narrative that clearly communicates our impact and potential. PBMAH has existing organizational materials available, including program descriptions, financial information, impact data, and supporting documentation. We need a professional who can leverage these materials to develop a competitive grant application. Scope of Work The selected consultant will: • Review organizational materials and supporting documentation. • Research and evaluate the funding opportunity, eligibility requirements, evaluation criteria, and funding priorities. • Recommend a positioning strategy that aligns PBMAH's programs and outcomes with the funder's objectives. • Identify gaps in information, metrics, or supporting materials that could strengthen the application. • Draft all narrative responses and supporting content required for submission. • Participate in periodic check-ins with PBMAH leadership. • Revise application materials based on feedback. • Complete the online application process. • Prepare the application for final review. • Submit the application only after receiving written approval from PBMAH leadership. Preferred Qualifications We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience supporting: • Youth development organizations • Mentoring programs • Educational nonprofits • Leadership development programs • Workforce development initiatives • Community-based organizations • Organizations serving historically underserved populations Ideal candidates will have demonstrated success securing foundation grants and translating program outcomes into compelling, measurable impact narratives. Deliverables • Grant strategy and positioning recommendations • Completed grant narrative • Finalized application package • Submission-ready application • Electronic copy of all submitted materials Timeline Immediate start preferred. We are targeting completion and submission within approximately three weeks of project kickoff. PBMAH has existing organizational materials, program descriptions, impact data, financial information, and supporting documentation available, and we anticipate this being a focused engagement requiring approximately 10–15 hours of effort for an experienced grant professional. Long-Term Opportunity PBMAH intends to pursue additional grants, sponsorships, and funding opportunities in the future. We are interested in establishing a relationship with a grant professional who can potentially support future funding efforts and help build a sustainable grant pipeline. We are looking for a partner who is interested in learning our organization and contributing to our long-term growth and impact. Ownership of Work Product All work product created during this engagement, including narratives, application responses, supporting materials, and related content, shall become the property of PBMAH upon payment.
