Summary

Job Title: Grant Writer for Early-Stage Arts Nonprofit (Project-Based) North Bay Media is a small but growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Santa Rosa, California, focused on supporting artists across many disciplines. We provide access to tools, training, and production support so artists and young people can develop their skills and share authentic stories through film, visual arts, writing, and other mediums. We also help protect and elevate human-created work in an era of increasing AI-generated content. We are currently in the early stages of building our organization and need help securing grants to sustain and expand our programs. This includes youth mentoring, community workshops, artist support, and storytelling/film projects that give voice to local artists and community members. We are looking for an experienced grant writer to work with us on a project basis to start. The initial focus would be researching and applying for grants that align with our mission, particularly in the areas of arts access, youth programming, and community storytelling. Responsibilities may include: Researching grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies, and other funders Writing grant proposals and preparing supporting materials Helping develop budgets and narratives for applications Advising on which opportunities are the strongest fit for our stage and capacity What we’re looking for: Solid experience writing grants for nonprofits (arts, education, or community-focused organizations are a plus) Strong writing and research skills Someone who understands the realities of working with a small, early-stage nonprofit Reliable, organized, and able to meet deadlines Important note on compensation: This is a project-based engagement to start. We do not currently have a large operating budget, so we are looking for someone who is comfortable working with a mission-driven organization that is still building its funding base. Compensation will be discussed based on experience and scope of work. Some grant writers in this space are open to a combination of hourly/project fees plus a success fee on grants awarded. We are happy to discuss what arrangement might work for both sides. If you have experience helping early-stage nonprofits secure funding and are interested in meaningful work that supports artists and community voices, we’d like to hear from you. To apply, please include: A short note about why you’re interested in this type of work Examples of grants you’ve written or helped secure (or links to funded projects, if available) Your general rate or preferred compensation structure for this kind of engagement We appreciate your interest and look forward to reviewing your application.
