Summary

# Graphic Designer for Trade Show Stand Wall – Large-Format Print We are looking for an experienced graphic designer to create the **main 3-metre rear-wall graphic for our exhibition stand** at a major UK solar industry trade show. This will be the principal visual element of a 3 m × 3 m shell-scheme stand, so we are looking for much more than simply arranging a logo, some text and a few photographs on a large canvas. We want a designer who can understand our business, simplify the message and translate it into a strong, modern exhibition graphic that can be understood within a few seconds from the aisle. ## About the company We are a **UK-based specialist geotechnical engineering consultancy focused exclusively on ground-mounted solar projects**. We work with solar developers, EPC contractors, designers and other project stakeholders, helping them understand ground conditions and translate geotechnical information into practical foundation and construction decisions. Our work covers the full relationship between the ground and the solar foundation system, including: * Geotechnical investigation and reporting * Pile installation and drivability assessment * Pile pull-out testing and foundation validation * Foundation design and optimisation * Assessment of geotechnical risks that can affect construction Our positioning is deliberately different from a general geotechnical consultancy. We are not trying to communicate that we “do geotechnics for many different industries”. Our focus is specifically **solar**, and our value lies in combining geotechnical investigation, field testing and foundation engineering with a practical understanding of how solar projects are actually constructed. The visual concept should therefore communicate something along the lines of: **Solar + Ground + Foundations + Engineering** rather than simply “civil engineering” or “renewable energy”. ## The exhibition context The stand is a relatively compact **3 m × 3 m booth**. The rear wall will be approximately 3 metres wide and formed by three shell-scheme panels. We have selected an **overlay graphic system**, which allows the three panels to work visually as one continuous composition, with only a small join between each panel. The official exhibition graphics contractor will provide the exact dimensions, panel positions, bleed and artwork template once our order is processed. **We are currently waiting for those final technical dimensions.** We would nevertheless like to appoint the designer now so that we can: 1. Review our existing brand and materials. 2. Select the strongest photography. 3. Develop the overall visual concept. 4. Agree the information hierarchy. 5. Adapt the approved concept to the official print template as soon as it is received. The final design therefore needs to include adaptation to the printer's technical template once supplied. ## What the rear wall needs to achieve This rear wall is **not intended to function as a large brochure**. Visitors walking through the exhibition should be able to understand, within a few seconds: * We work in the solar sector. * We are geotechnical/foundation specialists. * We are a technical, experienced and credible company. * Our work is directly connected to successful and buildable solar foundations. The visual hierarchy is much more important to us than including every possible service or piece of information. We will also have a separate roll-up banner within the stand that can communicate specific service lines in more detail. For this reason, **the rear wall should not simply become an oversized roll-up banner**. We want it to act as the main brand and positioning piece for the stand. ## Creative direction Our preference is for a **dark, contemporary visual direction**, using our existing corporate colours and visual identity. The design should feel: * Modern * Premium * Technical * Confident * Specialist * Clean * Appropriate for a serious B2B engineering audience We want strong visual impact without becoming flashy or looking like a consumer advertising campaign. We would like to avoid the traditional engineering exhibition style of: * White background * Large logo at the top * Several small photographs * Long service lists * Multiple icons * Large amounts of explanatory text We are interested in a much stronger and more deliberate composition. This could potentially involve: * One strong hero photograph * A carefully integrated combination of project photography * Large typography * Dark overlays or gradients * Strong use of negative space * Subtle graphic elements derived from the existing brand * A visual relationship between soil, pile foundations and solar infrastructure We are open to the designer proposing a better solution. ## Photography We have a library of **real photographs from our own projects**, including: * Ground-mounted solar farms * Geotechnical site investigations * Pile pull-out testing * Pile driving equipment * Ground and soil investigation * Foundation-related site work * UK solar projects * Technical personnel working on site We would prefer to use authentic project photography rather than generic stock imagery wherever possible. We will provide a selection of high-resolution images to the shortlisted designer. Part of the designer's role will be helping us identify which images have the strongest potential for a large-format exhibition wall. ## Content and messaging The final wording has not been locked yet. Potential messaging will revolve around our positioning as a specialist in geotechnical risk and solar foundations. Our three principal technical areas are: **Geotechnical Investigation & Reports** **Pile Pull-Out Testing** **Foundation Design & Optimisation** However, these do not necessarily all need to dominate the rear wall because they will also appear on other exhibition material. For the wall itself, we are more interested in communicating the broader idea that **good solar foundations start with understanding the ground**. Possible themes could include: * Optimised foundations for UK solar * Geotechnical risk management for solar projects * From ground investigation to buildable foundations * Turning ground data into practical foundation decisions These are examples of the type of positioning we are considering, rather than mandatory headlines. We would welcome creative input on how best to structure the message. ## Brand materials The public job post does not identify the company, but shortlisted candidates will receive: * Company website * Current brand identity * Vector logo files * Corporate presentation * Previous exhibition materials * Photographs from real projects * Example of the physical stand * Information about the complementary roll-up banner * Final Full Vision artwork template once available The existing website will be an important visual reference. The new exhibition graphic should feel as though it belongs to the same company and brand, rather than creating a completely separate visual identity. ## Deliverables We expect the project to include: * Initial creative direction / concept * Development of the selected direction * Reasonable revision rounds based on feedback * Selection and treatment of supplied photography * Realistic mock-up showing how the rear wall will look within an exhibition stand * Adaptation to the official printer template once received * Final print-ready PDF * Fully editable Adobe Illustrator or Adobe InDesign source file * Packaged linked assets where applicable * Commercial usage rights for the final design The editable file is important because we may want to adapt the concept for future exhibitions and different stand dimensions. ## Important technical consideration The wall consists of three approximately 1-metre sections. Although the overlay system allows the design to appear continuous, there will still be small vertical joins between the panels. The final composition should therefore avoid positioning critical elements — such as the logo, QR code, faces or important words — directly across panel joins. Exact joint positions will be confirmed in the official printer template. ## Who we are looking for We would particularly like to work with someone who has experience in: * Exhibition stand graphics * Trade show graphics * Large-format print * Event walls and backdrops * Environmental graphic design * Corporate B2B design * Engineering, construction, energy or other technical sectors Good visual judgement is more important to us than simply having many years of experience. We are specifically looking for someone who can **contribute creatively and challenge the obvious solution**, rather than simply place supplied assets into a standard exhibition template. ## When applying Please send **2–5 examples of your most relevant work**, ideally exhibition stands, large-format graphics, event walls, backdrops or similar projects. Please identify which example you consider most relevant to this project and why. We do **not require unpaid speculative design work** as part of the application. However, if you independently choose to include a very rough visual direction, sketch, moodboard or concept to demonstrate how you think about the project, please base it on the actual context described above: **UK ground-mounted solar / geotechnical engineering / pile foundations / technical B2B audience.** We are much more interested in seeing your thinking and visual judgement than receiving a polished generic mock-up. Please also confirm that your fee includes delivery of the **editable Illustrator/InDesign source files and final print-ready artwork**.
