HDL Git repository documentation and simulation setup audit
Worldwide
I’m hiring an experienced RTL/FPGA engineer for a paid Upwork consulting engagement focused on HDL Git repository documentation, packaging, and reproducible simulation setup. This is a technical service role. I want help evaluating what makes an HDL repository useful, understandable, reproducible, and ready for clean engineering handoff. Relevant deliverables may include: - reviewing HDL repository structure for Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL, FPGA, or ASIC projects - assessing README quality, setup instructions, architecture notes, block documentation, register/interface docs, and expected outputs - checking testbench organization, simulation scripts, Makefiles, CI configuration, coverage artifacts, and waveform/debug workflow - reviewing Git/GitHub/GitLab repository hygiene: commit history, tags/releases, branches, issues, PRs, changelogs, and bug-fix history - creating a repository inventory template for RTL modules, tests, scripts, dependencies, generated files, tool versions, and licenses - identifying third-party dependency, provenance, ownership, and packaging risk areas - recommending a clean handoff format for HDL repositories so another engineer can run tests and understand design intent Strong fits include engineers who have maintained serious HDL repositories with documented RTL, testbenches, simulation setup, Git history, and reproducible toolchains. Experience with Vivado, Quartus, ModelSim/Questa, Verilator, Icarus, cocotb, UVM, SymbiYosys, GitHub Actions, or similar workflows is relevant. The first milestone can be a short consulting session plus a written repository audit checklist and packaging plan. Please only discuss work you are authorized to discuss. Do not share employer, client, or third-party confidential material. Please apply with: 1. Your RTL/FPGA/DV background 2. Your experience maintaining Git/GitHub/GitLab HDL repositories 3. Examples of repository types you have worked on, described at a high level 4. Whether those repos typically included docs, testbenches, simulator scripts, CI, tool versions, coverage, or issue/bug history 5. How you would structure a first repository audit and documentation milestone
