Summary

Part Time | Remote About Us We are a digital health technology company developing evidence based behavioral health programs supported by scientific research. Our multidisciplinary team includes psychologists, researchers, scientific writers, engineers, designers, and product leaders working together to build innovative mental health solutions. About the Role We are seeking a Head of Finance to provide functional leadership across our finance operations, budgeting and planning, and fundraising and capital strategy work. This role is part of the intermediate leadership structure being established across the organization. The successful candidate will lead the Finance function, oversee bookkeeping, tax and audit, and budgeting contributors, and ensure work progresses without requiring executive leadership to manage every detail. This person will serve as the financial quality and accountability layer before work reaches executive leadership. They will review recurring financial reporting, budgets, forecasts, and fundraising materials, and own a dedicated departmental budget and KPIs for the function. On capital strategy, they will partner closely with the Fundraising Lead, keeping financial models, materials, and timelines aligned with active fundraising efforts. They will provide clear direction and constructive feedback, ensure required revisions are completed, and help the team improve the quality and consistency of its work. The Head of Finance will also represent the function in relevant meetings, provide clear updates, raise risks, identify decisions needed, and ensure agreed actions are completed. Responsibilities • Lead the Finance function and provide direction to bookkeeping, tax and audit, and budgeting contributors. • Translate company priorities into clear financial operations, budgeting, and fundraising deliverables. • Assign and clarify responsibilities, expectations, priorities, and deadlines across the Finance team. • Audit all recurring finance responsibilities, including bookkeeping, accounting, payments, taxes, audits, and recordkeeping, and assign clear ownership, frequency, and completion tracking to each. • Build a responsibility matrix, finance calendar, standardized filing system, and escalation procedures so nothing is missed or lost. • Oversee consistent, timely monthly closes and ensure financial records are properly completed and stored. • Monitor progress across finance, budgeting, and fundraising workstreams and address risks or delays early. • Review work completed by bookkeeping, tax and audit, and budgeting contributors before it reaches executive leadership. • Provide detailed and constructive feedback and ensure required revisions are completed. • Own company-wide budgeting, cash forecasting, budget-to-actual analysis, runway monitoring, and variance reporting. • Deliver concise, decision-ready reporting to executive leadership, flagging risks and recommendations rather than requiring them to reconstruct the company's financial position. • Simplify and de-risk the budgeting and financial model, and put secondary review in place for high-stakes calculations. • Administer departmental budgets across the company, giving functional leaders visibility and appropriate autonomy within their spend. • Audit and maintain the data room, investor materials, and financial model in a fundraising-ready state. • Work closely with the Fundraising Lead to keep financial materials, timelines, and reporting aligned in support of active fundraising efforts. • Build and drive the fundraising pipeline, outreach timeline, and follow-up process, and support the CEO on investor narrative and closing. • Define scope, deliverables, and cost expectations for outside fundraising advisors. • Attend relevant Finance, budgeting, and leadership meetings. • Present clear updates on progress, priorities, deadlines, risks, and decisions required. • Follow up on meeting decisions and ensure assigned actions are completed. • Create SOPs, templates, review frameworks, and finance quality standards. • Improve financial workflows, documentation, delegation, and review processes. • Identify recurring quality or process issues and implement scalable improvements. • Build a functional structure that allows finance work to progress without unnecessary executive involvement. • Reduce executive review time by ensuring work is complete, accurate, and properly reviewed before it reaches leadership. What We're Looking For Required • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a closely related field. • Strong experience in financial operations, accounting, and compliance. • Experience owning budgeting, cash forecasting, and budget-to-actual reporting. • Experience supporting fundraising: data rooms, financial models, investor materials, and diligence. • Experience overseeing, coordinating, or managing bookkeeping, tax, audit, or budgeting contributors. • Strong financial judgment and attention to detail. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate financial detail into clear, executive-ready recommendations. • Strong leadership, project oversight, and follow through. • Ability to manage several priorities and identify risks before they become significant problems. • Must be responsive, responsible, and able to manage this role alongside any other professional commitments. • Must be available to attend scheduled virtual meetings during our working hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time. Preferred • CPA or equivalent financial credential. • Experience in a regulated industry such as healthcare, digital health, or life sciences. • Familiarity with FDA-related financial planning or the U.S. healthcare reimbursement and insurance landscape. • Experience leading a finance function or department. • Experience managing outsourced or contract finance support, such as bookkeeping, tax, or audit providers. • Experience developing financial processes, SOPs, templates, or quality standards. • Startup or early-stage company experience. What Success Looks Like • The Finance function has clear leadership, priorities, and accountability. • Bookkeeping, tax and audit, and budgeting contributors receive clear direction and useful feedback. • Financial deliverables are accurate, consistent, and completed on time. • Monthly closes are consistent, and financial records are properly maintained and stored. • Budgeting, forecasting, and reporting are simple, reliable, and decision-ready. • Fundraising materials and pipeline are current, and finance is a reliable partner to the Fundraising Lead in supporting active fundraising. • Risks and delays are identified and addressed early. • Leadership receives concise updates and only becomes involved when strategic input or approval is required. • Fewer revisions are required during executive review. • Financial workflows, documentation, and review standards improve over time. • The function operates effectively without all financial work flowing directly through executive leadership. To Apply Please include: • Your CV. • Examples of finance functions, budgets, or fundraising processes you have built or led. • A clear explanation of your specific contribution to each example. • A brief example of how you have led or improved the work of bookkeeping, tax, audit, or budgeting contributors. • Details of your current professional commitments and the weekly capacity you can reliably dedicate to this role. • Your general availability and confirmation that you can attend meetings between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Central Time. • Your hourly rate.
